When is the last time you laughed so hard that you shot popcorn out of your nose? If that has never happened to you, but you've been dying to try it, then "Pineapple Express" is the film for you -- probably the best stoner film ever made.

Just a neat little horror film that deserved more attention than it received. A great ensemble cast, some nice gore and some incredible humor. One of the best horror film releases of the year.

Do you even need an explanation? It's Batman. It's going to be the biggest blockbuster of the summer. It's Ledger's final performance, which is definitely going to get some nods come Oscar time. It's also the best Batman movie to date. Not a whole lot more to say.

Best horror film of 2008, and one of the best horror films I have ever seen. Just a brilliant little independent horror film that blends horror, comedy, science fiction and even a little grindhouse style action. Amazing.

With the recent passing of the great George Carlin, it seems only fitting that we remember one of his most endearing roles, as Rufus in "Bill & Ted".

Despite what most critics are saying, M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening" is not a monumental disaster. It's actually quite good. Shyamalan's film is basically his homage to cheesy B-movies like "Soylent Green" and I even detected a little of "Maximum Overdrive" thrown in there. It's a style choice and Shyamalan's touch is all over it. People who think the acting is terrible and the directing is awful obviously don't understand what he was going for. I understood, and had one hell of an entertaining time. This is not your typical M. Night Shyamalan film, which is what I thought people wanted?!

With the impending release of M. Night Shyamalan's latest picture, "The Happening", I thought it would be fitting to look back on one of his previous works, and one of his most successful. "Signs" is so well made, it makes you forget all about "The Village" and (for some) "Lady in the Water". Let's hope his latest is as good as his previous.

HAPPY 15th ANNIVERSARY. That's right, it was a decade and a half ago that Spielberg took Michael Crichton's novel, put it on the big screen and revolutionized the special effects industry. There were even able to back up their pretty visuals, near flawless even by today's standards, with a solid plot. I'm sure you've all got the VHS lying around from when you were twelve, so dig that puppy out, dust it off, and remind yourself just how great it was.

Spider-Man 3

Why am I making "Spider-Man 3" a featured film, especially since I hated it so much? Well -- to educate, my friend -- to educate. You see -- "Spider-Man 3" was not just a disaster of epic proportions, but it also signaled what I consider to be something even more substantial -- the tendency of A-list directors to get carried away by their own egos and excesses. This was not a Sam Raimi film, at least not the Sam Raimi I know and love. This was like some bizarro film that was directed by his evil, less talented twin (not Ted). His explanation is that he was just trying to keep everyone entertained. If turning the world's most popular comic book superhero into a singing, dancing idiot is supposed to pass for entertainment -- keep me bored as hell.
"Spider-Man 3" will make my end of the year list as one of the worst films of 2007, and it might go down as one of my biggest disappointments ever. I do not recommend this film, except to recommend that you do NOT see it.

Since everyone is going to see "Halloween" anyways, I think the featured movie should be something a lot of people have not seen. "Prince of Darkness" fits that description. It was directed by horror master John Carpenter, released in 1987 and, in my opinion, is his most atmospheric and successful film since "Halloween". It certainly scares me more than "Halloween" does. The film is all mood and tone and Carpenter's treatment of the possessed zombies is impeccable, as is the whole claustrophobic tone the film has. Just an amazing horror flick. Find it. Watch it.

It was only a matter of time before "Halloween" was made a feature movie this month. After all, it is October. There is no other film in existence that represents the holiday so effortlessly. "Halloween" is still scary and still affective and a film you should always add to your Halloween watch list. So, if you have yet to break it out for 2007, go ahead and do it!

When it comes to weaving intricate storyline with humor and heart, no director does it much better than Lasse Halstrom. The director of such films as "My Life As A Dog", "The Cider House Rules" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" brings us one of his best films to date, the beautifully shot and beautifully acted "The Hoax", about a man who wrote the biography of billionaire Howard Hughes, only to have it revealed that the entire book was a fraud. Richard Gere is perfectly cast in his role and Alfred Molina deserves consideration for Best Supporting Actor as Gere's best friend and partner. "The Hoax" hits DVD shelves this week and you are encouraged to check it out.

Seriously? Its RHPS, the biggest cult classic ever made. Its the only movie theatres will open the doors at midnight for and allow in all manner of people in all states of dress. They encourage you to talk back to the screen and throw things at the appropriate times. It has an amazing musical score and its own dance! Its not JUST a movie, its an experiance....
