Though having never once in her life seen her father, Hyun-soo has never felt his absence, as there is a perfect mother for her. Her mother is also a renowned plastic surgeon, so she is never lonely, surrounded by girls who want beauty consultations from her mother. But her happiness comes to an end as her friends who have received facial surgery from her mother start to commit mysterious suicides by cutting out their faces. She also starts to feel that there is someone else in the house where she lives alone with her mother. One day, she discovers a hidden basement and there, she comes to find a secret from her past, which will bring great turmoil to mother and daughter.

It's time once again for another Korean ghost story filled to the brim with long-haired little girls, and this time around, the hook of the film just so happens to be plastic surgery. How did they come up with a connection between the original Cinderella story and plastic surgery? Well, to be totally honest, they didn't. This movie has nothing to do with the old fairy tale and there are no glass slippers or wicked stepmothers to be found, but it's still a fairly entertaining ghost story if you haven't gotten sick of them yet.
Teenager Hyeon Su (Se-Kyeong Shin) and her mom Yoon Hee (Ji-Won To) have a close relationship... a very close relationship. Mother dearest applies all of Hyeon's makeup and nightly facials, and she even bathes and dresses her daughter. The living situation is a bit odd, but it's all harmless at the end of the day, so mommy's little girl says nothing about it. However, the questions begin to arise when a couple of Hyeon's friends go under the knife for various types of cosmetic plastic surgery and wind up dead just after claiming to have seen a ghost who "wants her face back"... the kicker here is that Hyeon's mother is the one who was performing these surgeries, and she seems awfully nervous about the situation. Could it have anything to do with the dingy basement room that mother keeps locked and warns her daughter to stay away from?
If you knew exactly what I meant when I mentioned those long-haired little girls, then you're in store for a lot of familiar scenes and scares upon popping this one in. This type of ghost is still hot shit over in Asia for some reason, so those of you who got sick of them after watching the first hundred movies that featured them will probably roll your eyes when this particular ghost makes her first appearance. It's alright, there's nothing to be ashamed of there; I did it as well, but the film turned out to have some inventive stuff in it once the ball got rolling.
Now, I'll freely admit that this movie features little in the way of surprises: I kid you not when I say that, even though I knew nothing about the movie before popping it in, I had the storyline and end twists correctly figured out by the thirty-minute mark. Sure, there were some details that I didn't pick up on along the way, but when it comes to the general overview of the story, I had it nailed. Therefore, this is not the film to pick up if you're looking for an ending that will completely shock you, but if you don't mind the lack of surprises as long as the story itself is interesting and fun to watch, it might be worth renting at the very least.
I realize that the last two paragraphs have been largely negative towards the film, but at the end of each I still said that it was decent enough. This is due to the fact that the movie is beautifully shot and there's a solid storyline driving it along, and although the ending is easy to figure out and the ghost is far from original, it's still entertaining to watch. There's also some surprisingly good scares to be found once the clichéd "opening scares" are out of the way, and even though you'll have the ending figured out, watching it come to fruition is still pretty disturbing.
It's not a perfect film and I wouldn't recommend it to those of you who are sick of seeing the same family of ghosts in every Asian horror film, but if you haven't grown weary of them, give it a shot. 6/10, but that probably would have been a lot higher had I not seen this type of ghost a hundred times before.
