Just a couple of days ago, I reviewed Splatter: Naked Blood and mentioned that "nobody in the world does extreme, sadistic violence better than the Japanese." That is true, and another thing that those wacky Japanese are good at is making films that are completely fucked up and outrageous. Honestly, would any sane American company put out a film dealing with killer vaginas? I think not, but not only did the guys responsible for this one do it, but they also got it into stores across the country in their native Japan.
The storyline is as simple as one would expect given the premise, and it begins when a team of researchers head into the Amazon jungle for one reason or another. There, they discover a new type of parasite, and just like the professional scientists that they are, they shove it into a Styrofoam cooler for later investigation. This method of storage works out fine, until one of the female scientists sits on the cooler; the parasite senses that her vagina is above it, and it breaks through the cooler and enters her body through her nether regions.
Skip ahead a few months, and we meet a group of young adults (two guys and three girls) who are looking for a nice, quiet place in the woods to have a good time. This being a horror film, their idea of a good time consists of booze, drugs, and of course, plenty of premarital sex, and when they find an abandoned building out in the middle of nowhere, they decide that that is as good a place as any to spend some "quality time" with one another. Inside, they eventually find the body of the female scientist who was infected with the parasite, but do they let this screw up their plans? Hell no; they leave the body alone and simply move to the next room to continue their party. One thing leads to another, and one of the party-girls winds up infected with the parasite... but instead of killing her, it causes her to become insatiably horny. Nothing wrong with that and it isn't terribly difficult for her to find a willing partner to satisfy her needs, but a problem arises when she is about to orgasm: the parasite emerges from her vagina and chows down on whatever organ happens to be around or inside it at the time. Oh, and did I mention that this thing reproduces at an alarming rate and is highly contagious? Well, there you have it: the plot of Killer Pussy, a film which definitely ranks up there with some of the weirdest shit that I have ever seen.
First things first: if the storyline, DVD cover, and the general concept didn't make it blatantly obvious, Killer Pussy is not a horror film that takes itself very seriously. Sure, it has its moments where one gets the idea that the filmmakers were going for something halfway scary, but these scenes are few and far between as the real emphasis is on softcore sex, gratuitous violence, and various ways of combining those two elements. It's all done in a completely over-the-top fashion, and I was reminded of Braindead on more than one occasion; of course, the chap in Braindead didn't have to worry about losing his face while giving his girlfriend oral sex, and he certainly didn't have to worry about having his penis bitten off.
The effects and production values found throughout the running time aren't exactly cutting-edge, but then, did you really expect something along the lines of a Hollywood blockbuster from a film entitled Killer Pussy? The monster effects are created using a combination of puppets, fishing tackle (no kidding), and amateurish CGI effects, but to be perfectly honest, none of this hurt my enjoyment of the film. It was cheesy, yes, and the entire concept was extremely goofy, granted, but I was laughing like a fool throughout the whole thing. The actual gore effects fare a little better, and while they're nothing to brag about, the actual ideas used for these scenes were certainly memorable if nothing else.
Overall, readers need only glance at the title of this film to decide whether or not it's something they'd be interested in. Do you want to watch a cheesy horror flick involving monsters that emerge from women's vaginas? Do you want to watch Asian ladies show off their goods for about an hour? Do you love buckets of gore? If you answered "yes" to all of the above, then Killer Pussy is a must-see. 8/10.
