There are dozens of horror movies that really don't need sequels. Most of them get one anyway. Leprechaun was no exception, eventually spawning five sequels with the first being released less than a year after. And worst of all, the powers that be decided not to bring back Jennifer Aniston and her fantastic legs.

Presumably, this sequel deals with a different leprechaun than the first movie. At any rate, it's a thousand years ago on St. Patrick's Day, and the leprechaun's slave is hightailing it through a forest. The escape attempt is all for nothing, however, as our magical little friend shows up and starts mocking the man. But all is not lost, as he announces that since it's his thousandth birthday, he has decided to take a bride, and will no longer need his services. The man is overjoyed to get his freedom, and quickly agrees to help his master. All the leprechaun has to do is make the woman sneeze three times to claim her, but if someone says "God bless you" it voids his efforts. When the slave learns the evil little bastard has chosen his daughter as his betrothed, naturally the man saves her. Obviously, the leprechaun is pissed off, and quickly kills the man before vowing that in a thousand years he will claim his prettiest descendant. A millennium later, and a young woman named Bridgette is chosen by the leprechaun. At her house, he's able to get the three sneezes out of her and claims her as his new bride. In the scuffle with her boyfriend, Cody is able to get his hands on one of the gold coins before the leprechaun disappears with his new wife. As Cody runs to his uncle Morty for help, the leprechaun has taken Bridgette to his lair, where he notices the missing shilling and turns his sights back on Cody. The leprechaun wants his gold back, Cody wants his girl back, and I want those eighty-five minutes of my life back.

The biggest problem here is, without a doubt, the plotline. The entire premise is just retarded. I mean, "sneeze three times and we're married"? Of course made even worse by that god awful poem he keeps spouting out. You see, I sort of compare this series to Child's Play. While the first movie was presented as a straight horror movie, it was obvious that a comedy aspect was all but required to make it work, and this was added to the sequels. The minds behind Leprechaun really haven't grasped that, and it's still trying to pass itself off as a legitimate horror film. Even some of the smaller details are enough to make you start banging your head on the table. This movie pushes the "characters making really dumb decisions" envelope to its utmost limit. And the acting. Oh, the acting.

Let's start with the positive. Warwick Davis again dons the leprechaun getup, and pretty much it's the same shtick here, so if you liked him last time you'll like him here. Although, this time he spends less time playing games with his victims and is a bit more straight-forward and sadistic. A bit of a bummer, in my opinion. The late Sandy Baron brought his best George Carlin impression to the role of Uncle Morty, who was the highlight of the human side. Charlie Heath and Shevonne Durkin both proved themselves to be pretty much useless in front of the camera, although Durkin was so much worse. A quick look over her resume shows that in the last twenty years, she's had a total of about fourteen projects, and I honestly can't say I'm very surprised.

Despite all these complaints, the movie isn't a total loss. If you can get through the low level of intelligence of the plot, it's still able to be mildly entertaining. The movie moves at a decent pace, Davis' performance continues to please, and they've dropped the stupid shoe shining aspect from the last movie. I'm going to go with a 5/10 for this one, since I still can't get past that sneeze thing, although I admit I am tempted to start following Christina Ricci around with a pepper shaker. Just in case.

I haven't seen this since it came out. But I do remember a scene where a guy starts to get his stomach filled with a pot of gold, and then the Leprechaun cuts his gut open to take the gold. I thought that was pretty cool, but the rest I don't even remember and it seems like there is a reason from your review.

That scene was cool in itself, but it was completely ruined for me by the circumstances leading up to it. It's a shining example of my claim that "This movie pushes the "characters making really dumb decisions" envelope to its utmost limit."

I love these films, i don't own all of the films, but damn near it. I just love the corny horror comedy.
