A couple of guys are up in the mountains, trying to find out information about a battle that supposedly happened in this particular town during World War II. The battle was never officially documented, but army higher-up's swear it happened here, so these two guys are there to find out the truth. After finding a few skeletons in the snow, they realize that the rumors are true; but before they can report their findings, some zombie soldiers come out of nowhere and shoot them to death. This brings Nick into the picture, as he is determined to find out what happened during World War II, how these investigators died, and what's going on with the zombie legends that are popping up around town. A scientist by the name of Dr. Proud tags along with him, saying that there's a chemical called Gamma 693, created by the US army, that was lost up in the mountains and needs to be destroyed before it kills millions of people. Supposedly, the chemical was made as a biological weapon, but was lost upon completion.

That last paragraph describes about eighty-five percent of the movie. Most of the movie consists of Nick going to talk to a person, getting a bit of the story before being told to talk to someone else. He'll go talk to this person, then he'll go talk to some other person who hadn't even been mentioned until they're chatting it up. After that, he'll go talk to another person...... and another...... making for one very boring and slow-paced zombie film.

Then, the grand revelation of what's going on just made this already-lame movie even worse. Spoilers follow, skip if you like. Apparently, this Gamma 693 gas wasn't created to kill people; no sir, it was made to keep soldiers alive until they could get to the hospital. However, once somebody is exposed to it, they need to either have a constant supply of the gas, or they need to dine on human flesh. If they don't do either, they die. A couple of World War II fellows discovered all this, and have hid out in the mountains for thirty years, keeping some soldiers alive for defense. The soldiers are in very good spirits, laughing and joking with one another about the whole situation. Then, in yet another shocker, the scientist that was tagging along with Nick is revealed to also be a zombie. He wasn't coming along to dispose of the chemicals, oh no.... he needed more so that he could stay alive.

So with all corniness aside, this is still basically a zombie film, and I do love me some zombies. Still, this one didn't hold up whatsoever. First of all, the zombies seemed to take a backseat to Nick's constant discussions with various people. There's really only two or three scenes with zombies in them, actually. The makeup jobs look nothing like the cover may lead you to believe, as each zombie person merely had a little bit of gray makeup on their face and hands, with black mascara around their eyes. Seeing a shitty effects job is one thing, but watching this zombie joke around and laugh with his fellow zombies just killed the mood even more. But still... zombies eat human flesh, so there must be some good kills, right? Wrong again. The first two people die by gunshot, meaning, we hear a loud bang, and they fall to the ground with no trace of bloodshed. Two more people are stabbed to death, with very minimal blood loss; I've bled more from a paper cut than this guy did from a fatal stab wound. And then there was..... nothing else. Nobody else dies, except for a zombie that melts away to nothing but bones after being sprayed with foam.

Even the ending didn't hold up here. Nick confronts the three guys responsible for all this, realizes they're zombies, a bit of revelations is to be had, he shoots one of them, they laugh it off, and then.... cut-scene. Nick is back in his tent, drops a lame one-liner, movie ends. Pathetic ending to a pathetic movie, indeed.

Now, if you're a fan of so-bad-they're-good movies, or the slew of foreign zombie films that were made back in the '70's and '80's, I'd still advise you to look elsewhere. This movie offers nothing to fans of either set of films. 0/10, absolutely nothing redeeming here.
