A delicate dance of pleasure and pain. A slow descent from life to death. An allegory for our lives. Cozy Hearth sets the stage for a thrilling tale filled with a dynamic plot and spot-on actors.
Have you ever wondered what fire does when you're not looking? Does it continue to burn or is it just lazy enough to go quiet when no one is watching. For the next few hours, you will find out...seriously though, this is a DVD recording of a fireplace filled with burning logs. That about sums it up. I like to use it as a backdrop for conversation when I have people over (and the occasional lady) since it provides a little background noise and usually provides a tiny amount of humor (at least for the first time around).
The fire itself could have been made more attractive. I'm sure you've seen some magnificent fireplace scenes in movies where the logs are arranged just right so that the flames dance around them. This was not one of those scenes. Three or four logs were roughly stacked at angles with little care to how they look. Additionally, the camera will occasionally pan to a different angle for no real reason; a static shot taken from in front of the fireplace would have strengthened the illusion of your TV being a fireplace.
For audio, you have your choice of hearing the crackling fire or having music play without the fire noises. The fire sounds as good as you could expect, but the music was surprisingly well done, and I would use it in most situations.
There is an additional "bonus feature" of winter scenes with Christmas songs playing over them. I cannot ever imagine anyone really watching through that. It feels like something that would loop on a department store TV, and it should probably stay there.
You know exactly what you're getting with this DVD, so buy/rent accordingly. The rating that follows is given with respect to the DVD's intended purpose as a backdrop and isn't meant to say that it is better than actual movies with lower ratings.
For being a decent but not great fireplace DVD, I give Cozy Hearth a 6.5/10.

The fire on the cover is much better looking than
the one that's in the actual movie, by the way.

Oh that part when you thought it was going to go
out, but it didn't. What a twist that was!
