I've never watched a single episode of Drawn Together. It was recommended to me a couple of times over the years, but I simply threw it on the pile of "recommendations that I'll check out some day", and there it has sat ever since along with a few hundred other selections. However, I happened to catch The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie! through Netflix streaming, and here we are. So, with that in mind, I'm not going to compare the movie to the show, and I couldn't tell you which is better or what the big differences are. I'm just going to tell you what I thought of the film as though it were a standalone product. Fair enough?

The show centered around eight cartoon characters who were involved in a reality show. You probably already knew this even if you didn't watch the show (I did!), and these characters are all parodies of other famous cartoon characters (or generalizations). We've got Princess Clara (voiced by Tara Strong), the foul-mouthed and racist Disney princess, Wooldoor (James Arnold Taylor), a homicidal schizophrenic along the lines of SpongeBob, Foxxy Love (Cree Summer), a sex-starved, wise-cracking parody of Valerie Brown from Josie and the Pussycats, Toot Braunstein (Tara Strong), a Betty Boop characature who is pregnant with Barney Rubble's child, Ling-Ling (Abbey McBride), who some of you may confuse with Pikachu, Xandir (Jack Plotnick), a gay man who is quite similar to Link from the Zelda games, the sex-obsessed Spanky Ham (Adam Carolla) who is a parody of some internet flash characters that I have never seen, and finally, Captain Hero (Jess Harnell), who is a perverted parody of Superman. Jesus, that was one long sentence.

Anyway, that is the show. The movie picks up on a normal day of said show, when out of the blue, Foxxy discovers that she is able to say the word "fuck" without being censored. Wooldoor takes it one step further and discovers that he can show off his huge black penis without it being blurred out, and thus, our characters do a little digging and discover that their show has been cancelled. What has replaced it? Why, a charming little show called "Suck My Taint" that is just as offensive as the show our heroes starred in, only, it wraps up each episode with a message. Sound familiar?

After a visit from the Jew Producer (James Arnold Taylor), our lovable bunch of misfits also discover that the network head (Vernon Wells) wants them not only cancelled, but also erased entirely for personal reasons. To assist him in this mission, he has enlisted the help of a giant robot named Intelligent Smart Robotic Animated Eraser Lady (Seth MacFarlane)... aka, I.S.R.A.E.L. (and yes, that joke gets played quite a few times). Now, our heroes must dodge certain death, enlist the help of the Suck My Taint Girl, journey to Make-A-Point land so that they can find a point for their show, and finally, get their show back on the air. Oh, and Captain Hero bangs his dead girlfriend a couple of times.

This movie was grossly offensive and on the extreme "black" end of the comedy spectrum, and thus, a lot of you are going to be offended by it. I mean, here is a movie in which a superhero steals a woman's corpse from a funeral in front of her grieving husband and children, and then proceeds to make out with it throughout the film (as it rots away from scene to scene). He later pisses on her exposed organs. This is to say nothing of a cartoon pig whipping out his corkscrew penis and using it to drill a hole in a wall, or a little girl singing about her taint before making out with a deformed old man, or a giant with an asshole attached to his forehead which causes him to constantly shit in his own mouth. However, with that said: this is my brand of humor, and I loved it.

Also, while I may be a fan of South Park (the show that took Drawn Together's time-slot when it was cancelled), I have to say that the little jab at it was humorous and possibly even well-deserved. Drawn Together is a crude, rude show with gross-out humor that pokes fun at current events. It got cancelled after three seasons. South Park is a crude, rude show with gross-out humor that pokes fun at current events, while wrapping up each episode with a positive message. It is still going after almost fifteen years.

I'm not sure how much they were allowed to get away with on the show, but regardless, there was definitely a lot of material here that you wouldn't have seen on network television. There are penis shots, vaginas, boobs, and more profanity than you could shake a stick at. It's also funny as all hell, and even though I can't say whether it's better than the show or not, I certainly know when I am being entertained. This movie did it, and it did a damned good job with it. For that, I have to go with an 8/10.

Great review and I'm damn glad I finally talked you into watching this. Compared to the show is roughly the equivalent of the South Park transition to the big screen. They took everything good about the show and just ramped it up 110% I would say 8.5/10 from me.
