Connections: The A-Team

Meet Hannibal, Face, B.A., and Murdoch. Together, they make the A-Team, a group of skilled army rangers with eighty successive missions under their belt. Stationed out in Iraq, they are approached by CIA agent Lynch who offers them a job involving stolen USD mint plates and a billion dollars in counterfeit money. The A-Team takes up the job, only to find that it's a setup. Court-martialed and sentenced to four individual prisons - one psychiatric ward, in Murdoch's case - the team is almost a distant memory. Six months later, Hannibal escapes prison and pulls together the team to take down the man who set them up and restore their names. With a demoted captain on their tail - who happens to be Face's old flame - the team races to seize the plates again, only to discover that nothing is as it seems. --IMDb

I found this purchased on my DirectTV, so I thought what the hell, why not? I have never seen a single episode of the A-Team series, not one. So I can't compare it to this movie at all besides the summary of the series on imdb.com. Hollywood is constantly rebooting series and movies from the past, so they can ruin them and waste our time. I didn't have a lot of hope for this movie, but it was actually pretty enjoyable to watch. However, some parts really bugged the hell out of me.

The A-Team is made up of four Army Rangers: Hannibal (Liam Neeson) the experienced leader; Face (Bradley Cooper), the charming con-artist; B.A .or "Bad Attitude" (Quinton Jackson), the muscle driver; and Murdock (Sharlto Copley), their insane pilot who would gladly fly a plane with no wings. The group works well together and the military loves them for it, sending them everywhere in the Middle East to take care of all the dirty jobs. All is going well for the group until they are given a mission from a CIA Agent named Lynch (Patrick Wilson) who wants them to find plates that can print one hundred dollar bills. Once they come back from this mission their Commanding Officer is killed, the plates are gone, and they are all framed for it by a mercenary group led by Brock (Brian Bloom). Now the A-Team must escape prison, find the plates, and clear their names while all the baddies with Army Lieutenant Charissa Sosa (Jessica Biel), right on their tails.

Now, as I said, from what I have read from the series they keep things pretty close to the original stuff. The group is framed for something they didn't do and they now have to find the guy who screwed them over while kicking his ass. This stuff is pretty cut and dry when it comes to the story and what action movie isn't? You're not going to find anything different here from any other John Rambo or Commando set up. I will say that the last thirty minutes of the movie went past my bullshit meter pretty quick. Typical plot twists and cruddy jokes were leaning their heads out of this story left and right to the point that I was starting to get bored with the movie. This is a shame, because they almost had my full attention all the way through, but it seemed like the writers just got extremely lazy. This doesn't kill the movie, but it sure did piss me off a bit.

Now for the acting!

Our main cast of characters on the A-Team did a pretty good job overall. They were likable and quick with their catchy one- liners. I will say watching Jackson playing Mr. T seemed very weird to me. Not that I respect Mr. T as an actor because he isn't marvelous at it, but hearing someone else say "I'll kill you fool!" just made my head lean left. After watching Wilson play the CIA agent I wanted to punch him in the face. He had the attitude of a sixteen year old jock and was as cocky as they come, but I guess being part of one of the biggest agencies in the world can get to your head, maybe. Biel, well, she is just eye candy to me because I find her about as entertaining as some moss growing on a rock. I can't stand her, she does nothing in front of the camera for me, or at least the stuff I want her to do. Bloom, as the bad guy is pretty much typical: he's an asshole, so he does the job pretty good!

Overall: The movie was entertaining besides a few parts in the writing and acting, so I would recommend this on a night in with some friends and popcorn. With the way they left things I'm sure they will have another one around the corner and could care less. Just like rebooting a movie creating a sequel can equally screw things up. Matrix anyone? 6/10.
