It's time to pull another wrestling DVD out of this stack of mine, and this time, we're going to take a look at another ROH event. This one is "Salvation", which took place on July 24, 2010 in Chicago Ridge, Illinois at the Frontier Fieldhouse. It's heavy on the tag-team action, as the event plays host to the first round of the 2010 Tag Wars. Eight teams compete against each other in four matches in the first round (the final match wasn't featured on this event), the four winning teams face off with one another and narrow it down to two on a later show, and those two teams will face the champions in an Ultimate Endurance Match. There are also a handful of singles matches, including an excellent title match between Tyler Black (current WWE headliner Seth Rollins) and Kevin Steen (who is soon to make an impact in WWE).

So, let's get right down to it. The card for this show plays like this:

Tag Wars 2010 First Round Match
1. The Embassy (Erick Stevens and Necro Butcher) vs. Grizzly Redwood and Rasche Brown
You generally want a strong match to kick off your event in order to get the crowd fired up for the night, but unfortunately, this one didn't do anything for me. Necro Butcher is the only guy that I was familiar with, and I have enjoyed watching his bloody, hardcore style of wrestling over the years. He didn't bring that here, in case you're wondering, but that's not the issue that I had with the match. It's simply a bland and boring match with bland and boring competitors, and I really didn't care who won as long as the damned thing ended soon. That's not how you want to start a show.

2. Amazing Kong vs. Sara Del Rey
Here's another match where I have to question, what happened? Don't get me wrong, the ladies themselves started things out nicely. The match started out slow, as ROH matches tend to do, but it started building into something pretty exciting... and then it just abruptly ended with no build to the finish. Neither of them is dominating the match, there's no big finishing move, there's no real ending, just a random pin attempt out of nowhere that ends the match. There's potential for a good match between these two, but this wasn't it.

Tag Wars 2010 First Round Match
3. The Briscoes vs. The House Of Truth (Christin Able and Josh Raymond)
Solid match, though I wouldn't give it much more than that. There's technically nothing wrong here: the Briscoes work well together, as always, while Able and Raymond gel together nicely in a team that I had personally never seen before. The teams work well together and there are some good moments, but overall, it's not a very memorable match.

4. Roderick Strong vs. Austin Aries
Now this is where things start to pick up. Both men can always be counted on to deliver a solid match, and this was no exception. There are plenty of memorable, high-impact spots, the match runs for just the right amount of time, and the ending felt satisfying.

5. The All-Night Express (Kenny King and Rhett Titus) vs. Delirious and Jerry Lynn
Austin Aries returns to ringside in a manager role for the Express, and playing off an incident from the previous night's show where he "kidnapped" Daizee Haze in order to get under the skin of Delirious, he returns in Daizee's wrestling attire. Yes, Aries is sporting the top and tights of a woman who is much, much smaller than him, and it's as uncomfortable to watch as it probably was to wear. The actual match, however, is very good. The Express is a very fluid team who work well together, while Delirious and Lynn bring their A-game to the table and deliver some great high spots. The result is an exciting back and forth match with tons of great moments.

Tag Wars 2010 First Round Match
6. Colt Cabana and El Generico vs. The American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards)
Much like the Briscoes match from earlier in the show, this is a match where there's technically nothing to gripe about, but it's just not a very memorable outing either. The Wolves are great, Colt is on top of his game, and while I've seen better from Generico, he turned in a pretty solid performance. The teams just didn't click together very well in my eyes, and while there are some great moments, I can't say that it's anything overly memorable.

7. The Kings Of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli) vs. Generation Me (Jeremy and Max Buck)
Now, this is a great tag-team match. The Kings were a phenomenal, technical tag team, while Generation Me (aka The Young Bucks) are a great high-flying team. I wasn't sure how they'd fare against each other due to the conflicting styles, but those doubts were quickly pushed aside when I saw them go at it. They trade control of the match back and forth countless times, there's never much certainty as to who will win, and of course, there are plenty of memorable high spots to keep us cheering. Definitely a highlight of the event.

Singles match for the ROH World Championship
8. Tyler Black vs. Kevin Steen
The rest of the card may have been hit or miss, but the main event definitely gives you your money's worth. These two go all out here, with some crazy spots delivered, some cringe-worthy moments, and yes, lots of blood from both men. The crowd is totally into it, with Steen receiving nuclear heat from the crowd for his antics and Black receiving the hero's reception for his comebacks. This single match shows why Black (aka Seth Rollins) is a headliner in WWE now, and it also shows why Steen will be up there with him before long. It's just that good.

Overall, this show features two weak matches, two average matches, two great matches, and two amazing matches that belong on highlight DVDs. In theory, that split should make it pretty easy to come up with a final rating, but since the good stuff outweighs the bad in terms of running time, I think that I'm going to go with an 8/10 for the show as a whole. I wouldn't say that this disc belongs on your shelf, but I'd definitely recommend tracking down those last two matches.
