It's time for the annual "Muskie Madness" fishing contest, and the lake is packed with hopeful fishermen. It soon becomes apparent, however, that a psychotic serial killer has also decided to join the festivities. Although the police have determined that the killer is claiming his victims by landing them with giant fishhooks, no clear suspects can be found since everyone is using the exact same hook! What is the killer's goal? And more importantly, can the murders be stopped? --IMDb

The movie revolves around these five students, one of them had a grandfather that owned a cabin up in the woods. They all decided to take a vacation there. One by one, they fell victim to an oversized fishing hook/lure. The fisherman doing all these deeds (whos identity was revealed in the first half hour) was a man at least sixty years of age. This old man managed to have the strength to drag in several human bodies via fishing hook. The movie would have actually settled well with me if it wasn't trying to be a real horror film. To add to that, there was several scenes that were just plain stupid.

For example, one of the students is laying on a float with her eyes closed, out in the lake and grandpa is trying to hook her. He misses twice with the huge lure splashing and making a loud sound when hitting the water. She doesn't hear it though and eventually gets captured. Grandpa stroke again when he hooked a different one of the students on the ear. The kid was sleeping in a boat when he got hooked. After he got the hook out, he jumped in the water (by choice) then tried to get back on the boat. Lastly, one of the broads that has something to do with the contest is swimming in the lake when she gets hooked. The blood pouring out of her back gets all over her arms and face, and it stays there. Not even an attempt at semi-real blood. Just slapped some paint on her and filmed.

Other than the paint-by-hook blood scene, the others were acceptable. Blood came out of whatever part of the skin the hook got ahold of. A few nice gouges came about too. The scenery surrounding the lake was well put together. The acting could have been a bit better, but nothing horribly unbearable. The plot was original, but not for a serious horror movie. And the ending dragged on forever. Right when it could have ended, they threw in some more crap. There was a phrase in the movie that was golden. One of the students was listening to his stereo during part of one of the contests, an old man grabs it and yells "Turn off this god damn headache machine." That's one for the books.

Final Conclusion: 6/10

I didn't like this movie, even if I like Troma. Even "Surf Nazis Must Die" is better...

I think the best part of the movie was seeing the muskies somebody actually caught out of the lake the movie was filmed on. It was a bad movie.

I wasn't expecting a slasher classic from a movie involving a fisherman knocking people off with his rod and reel, but this... this was pretty bad even with my low expectations. 3/10 sounds appropriate as there were a couple of neat scenes, but certainly not enough to save the movie.
