The Wicker Man
|

Whoever thought they were being clever when they
made all those ridiculous plot changes is a
fucking moron.
I mean, for fuck's sake. The
investigator was intended to be a devout
christian, and a virgin. It was a well-known,
strategically placed fact when he was shanghaied
into the investigation. At least, in the original
it was.
Pretty much, the original was
hollowed out - the artsy, eerie aspect was
replaced with blockbuster jump-scenes and the
like. It was faithful to the ending, but I could
probably perform a more believable reenactment in
my back yard, alone, with my camera phone. It's
funny how the original had much more stunning
visuals, considering it came a good 30 or so years
before this.
Hopefully this remake
just fades the fuck away (as it seems to be doing,
thankfully). I found myself laughing where the
intention was an intense feeling of dread.
Actually, I found myself laughing every time
Nicholas Cage (or anyone, for that matter) opened
his fucking piehole. Terrible, terrible acting.
The original has always been one of my favorite
films of all time.. and I'd like to be able to
make that claim without having the vast majority
of people think of this film.
Just
like last year's harvest on Summisle, this remake
FAILS. 0/10

Haha, that was a hilarious read.
I agree
with you, for the most part.
My biggest
gripe with it was the dream sequences. To me, it
seemed like the aim was to 'spice up' an already
terrifying plot with some cheap jump scenes.
Boooo.
I just found myself bored with this
remake, though the original is among my favorite
movies ever.

I couldn't stand this film. I've never seen the
play, but the acting in this just seemed so fake.
I'm not really big on musicals, but it seems like
a movie that sacrifices acting for a chance to
tell us how they are feeling through use of poorly
worded lyrics ain't exactly a work of art. That
wasn't even my biggest gripe. I had a real
problem with the character development in this
film. *SPOILER* For instance, the film doesn't
give the audience of reason to give a fuck when
the character Angel finally bites the dust. Seems
like the only thing this film cared to emphasize
about him was that he was homosexual. Then it
flips to the scene in the church where they're all
sobbing away. Meanwhile, I continue to stare at
the 'Exit' sign in the theatre which was far more
interesting, expressing the only emotion I am
feeling at that moment: boredom.

I really really really want to see this film. It
looks great. btw, the character who plays Alex is
Eugene Hutz. He's the frontman for the band Gogol
Bordello.

I found this movie in a dumpster behind
Blockbuster. Look in dumpsters... especially
behind Blockbuster.. cause they throw a lot of
shit out... erm... yeah. Anyway, I thought the
movie was kind of boring.. aside for the parts
that actually involved dragons. The special
effects and "fight" scenes were decent.
