Seventeen year old slacker Anton Tobias wakes up one Halloween morning to discover that both of his parents have been turned into two headless Halloween decorations. After speaking to his equally irresponsible friends, Mick and Pnub, he discovers that his right hand has a blood-thirsty mind of its own and is hell-bent on wreaking havoc whether he likes it or not.

One of my all-time favorite horror/comedy films has to be Terri Hughes (writer), Ron Milbauer (writer), and Rodman Flender's (director) 1999 release; Idle Hands. Though many other smaller things helped, the movie was good for two main reasons; its script and its characters/actors.
Many horror/comedy films start off with a plot that soon wanes as the writers/directors throw the blood and death in; or some just don't have much of a plot to begin with, but Idle Hands is very plot driven throughout the entire movie, but not focusing enough on the plot to stop you from enjoying the entertainment value it also included (which is pretty bountiful and well placed throughout the film).
It all starts in the small town of Bolan where Anton, a lazy, pot smoking teenager eventually finds out that the town's maniac serial killer has killed his parents. He also finds out, with the help of his two friends Pnub and Mick, that HE is the serial killer who's been terrorizing his town; or more over, his hand is. As it turns out his hand has become possessed by the devil on account of it being so idle ("Idle hands are the devil's playground") so to solve his problems he cuts it off. Great idea... NOT. That sets the hand loose and of course it's still on a killing rampage so it heads over to the school dance for Molly (Jessica Alba) as a sacrifice. That leaves it up to three stoners to save her life before midnight that night. Good luck I say.
This movie helped push a few rising stars up the ladder like Devon Sawa (Final Destination, The Devil's Den) who played Anton Tobias, Seth Green (Austin Powers Trilogy, The Italian Job) who played Anton's friend Mick, and Jessica Alba (One of the hottest girls on the planet) who plays Molly, a girl Anton's been crushing over (who isn't?). Also featured in Idle Hands were Elden Henson (Mighty Ducks, Lords of Dogtown), as Anton's other friend, Pnub, Vivica A Fox (Kill Bill Vol 1, Ella Enchanted) as Debi LeCure, a warrior woman battling against evil and Jack Noseworthy (U571, Undercover Brother) who played Randy, Anton's neighbor. Idle Hands also features cameo appearances from Tom DeLonge (Blink 182, Angels and Airwaves) and Kyle Gass (Tenacious D).
As far as jealousy goes, that Devon Sawa gets to smack/grab Jessica Alba's ass and make out with her multiple times IN THE SAME MOVIE and hint that they had sex. That part of the movie didn't float to well for me since they cut out the sex scene. On the upside though they do show one of the finest racks I've seen in a movie (thanks to Dancing With The Stars, Playboy model Kelly Monaco). Of course my mood is ruined yet again because it is followed quickly with boob groping from a rotting, dismembered hand and bloody murder. Curses to the mood swings.
This is another discount bin bargain I picked up after seeing some of the movie on the tellie. Once again a wise purchase since it ended up being one of my favorite horror/comedies. I love the acting/actors, the script and placement of the humor, and the plot (as simple as it was). Great stuff.
9/10.

Love, love, love this film. No redeeming value
whatsoever, but I love the hell out of it. It's
so wacky and ridiculous, in a very creative and
intelligent way. The film is far more intelligent
than it seems on the surface. Plus, I use to have
a mini-crush on Devon Sawa. Not anymore, but
once. 8/10.

When I saw the cast at the time I thought it was
going to be shit, however, it turned to be a good
movie. 7/10
