I adore horror films, I love film in general, but horror just works for me. Can you blame me? By general principle both horror and comedy films should appeal to all humans, as they seem to let us express emotions that we don’t normally approach. For instance comedies give us a chance to enjoy things that we find hilarious, occasionally things that are taboo to find amusing. Horrors do the same thing, they allow us to feel the excitement of being afraid, of being approached with terrors that aren’t normally natural, like ghosts, vampires, zombies, Rutger Hauer hitchhiking, etc.

The best thing, in my opinion, is when horror-films center on realistic things, such as birth. There are few things more frightening then bringing a child into the world, I don’t know this personally, but I know what I’ve seen (I’d still list “Eraserhead” in the top 10 most terrifying films of all time not to mention the obvious “Rosemary’s Baby” being a landmark of psychological horror) and what I’ve seen isn’t good… now, let’s look at what seemed to be the ultimate in this… and then let’s question how the hell it failed…

The film is a very simple premise, a couple wants to have a child and agree to become test subjects for a new fertility drug. Huh. I wonder where the trouble starts. Anyhow, not long after, the missus finally gets pregnant, not too long after THAT the labor begins. After a long tangent to the hospital the baby is born… and kills all of the delivery doctors. Yeah. Ummmmm… I’m going to stop here as this is pretty much where you’ll stop giving a shit during the film.

What was wrong with this movie? Larry Cohen, bless his heart, tries his best to make this movie work, you can really see it, but it doesn’t! Why not? It’s a great idea! Killer baby, driven by fear, loving its family, killing cops. This sounds like the perfect monster movie on paper but somehow it just doesn’t transfer to screen… at all… I mean, wow, even the baby fuckin’ sucked. I mean, this movie was just a horror to look at or listen to. The only relatively frightening moment of the film takes place in the last twenty minutes of the movie… what is it? Why tell you? I’ve got to give you some sort of logical reason to even consider watching this piece of shit… You may ask yourself “If it’s so bad then why do you want me to watch it?” Well, there’s only two reasons: 1.) There is one scene in this entire film that I find amusing and will watch it over and over again, and 2.) If I had to sit through this thing to wait for the ending, then, damn it, so do you!

Larry Cohen... Hooks me with "Q" and then ruins me with everything else...

All in all I give it a 1.7/10 for the ending and that one scene that keeps me amused.

Avoid it unless you’re REALLY curious as to what those scenes are.

Quoting myself in the chatterbox "Going back to It's Alive, if the movie only played the first and last 10 minutes, it'd be the greatest horror short of all time."

Still the same feeling. 5/10

You don't get much worse or overrated than this flaming piece of shit. Yep. 1/10.
