After Bella recovers from the vampire attack that almost claimed her life, she looks to celebrate her birthday with Edward and his family. However, a minor accident during the festivities results in Bella's blood being shed, a sight that proves too intense for the Cullens, who decide to leave the town of Forks, Washington for Bella and Edward's sake. Initially heartbroken, Bella finds a form of comfort in reckless living, as well as an even-closer friendship with Jacob Black. Danger in different forms awaits.

You can't spell 'SAGA' without the word 'sag'.
There's something inherently annoying about teenagers and their problems. They always seem to be much larger than they ever should be, especially when you consider these teenagers rely on their parents for basically all of their needs -- so -- really -- what does a teenager have to be anxious about? There is enough angst and teen melodrama in "New Moon" to lacquer the entire Washington Monument. It oozes from the cracks and drops down the side like hot wax. "New Moon" is what would happen if a Fallout Boy song became a film.
The film revolves around Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and her torturous love affair with vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). In this film, however, Edward leaves her and she is thrust into the arms of the buff and always shirtless Jacob (Taylor Lautner), who also happens to be a werewolf. First a vampire. Now a werewolf. In the third one does she start dating a Mummy? So, most of "New Moon" features Bella lying on her bed releases guttural wails at the thought of living without Edward who isn't 'living' at all. Then she perks up when she realizes werewolf boys don't require shirts for any daily task. At the end we find ourselves in some ancient city as Bella fights for her life against the Voultori (including Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning). The film ends with Edward asking Bella a very important question -- "Do you ever shut up?"
The one thing that boggles my mind is -- how in the hell a 109-year-old gorgeous vampire and a hunky Native American boy could EVER fall in love with such a winy, redundant and ultimately bland 16-year-old girl? It doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. So what if Edward can't read her mind. That is a blessing in disguise. Director Chris Weitz tackles this material with all the energy and charisma of a tree slug. Catherine Hardwicke at least had a vision and it translated to some nice imagery and visuals. Weitz doesn't know how to tell a story, which is why the film feels an hour longer than it actually is. "Twilight" had a nice energy to it and we really kind of believed a lot of the teen angst. None of it is believable anymore.
The negatives aside, "New Moon" appeals to the base and is entertaining enough to have kept me from falling asleep. Any movie where 1/2 the cast stays shirtless throughout is a good movie for me. But I am getting sick and tired of Bella. They need to start giving her more dimension and levels or I am going to abandon the idea of even thinking about seeing the third one. Maybe a better actress would do a better job, I don't know. So, I can't really recommend this film to anyone who isn't a massive fan of the books. And, even if you are a massive fan of the books, why don't you grow the fuck up and read "Harry Potter" instead. 5/10.

I saw this and was bored to tears. Why the fuck
do vampires glitter in the sunlight? It had good
ideas, but other then that I would not watch this
again. 4/10

I have yet to see this movie because I refuse to
be a part of the record breaking hysterical
teenaged girl crowds. However, I did enjoy the
books, the first movie and I fully intend to catch
"New Moon" this weekend. That being
said, I feel like you guys are judging this movie
pretty harshly. I mean it's essentially a
Buffy/Angel rip-off with a few new ideas brought
to the table, but is overall fluff. Seriously,
think of the mentality of your average Robert
Pattinson obsessed 13 year old girl. That's who
the movie is geared towards. As far as the
directorial styles and what not, I can't really
comment having not seen this movie yet, but my
only expectation is to see a fluffy, entertaining
movie that does justice to the book and based on
what I've heard, that's what it is. I'll reserve
any further comments until I've actually seen the
movie.

You cant compare buffy to this, buffy was good and
it was very open and aware of its own campyness. I
saw New Moon during a school day so very few
teenagers where there. The audience was actually
laughing out loud at some of the serious scences
because they were so cringe worthy. I have read
the books and i didnt mind them, but as a big
vampire fan they definatly wernt great.(Charline
Harris, Sookie Stackhouse series now know as True
Blood is a hell of a lot better) I not only found
myself checking my watch alot throughout the movie
but also cherring on the bad guys the voultori,
they were the better actors and had the better
fight scenes.

I wasn't comparing it to the show
"Buffy". I was comparing it to the
Buffy/Angel dynamic of a "good" vampire
falling for a human. I've now seen "New
Moon" and I think both it and
"Twilight" have some comedic moments
where the films are not taking themselves too
seriously, but like I said earlier, it's all
fluff. Of course some of the lame teen angst
moments and fight scenes are funny. This isn't
"Underworld" or any other serious
vampire/werewolf movie. It's a teen drama. If
there weren't some cheesy moments, I wouldn't like
it half as much. That being said, I thoroughly
enjoyed this movie. They managed to have every
important moment from the book covered, only it
moved along at a much nicer clip than the book
does. I thought it was much better than the first
movie and was everything I was expecting (which
wasn't all that much) and more. 9/10 easy.
