Martin is a mentally disturbed loner who lives with his mother in a bleak housing project. He works the night shift as a security guard in an equally grim and foreboding underground parking complex. To escape his dreary existence, Martin loses himself in the fantasy world of the cult horror film The Human Centipede, fetishizing the meticulous surgical skills of the gifted Dr. Heiter, whose knowledge of the human gastrointestinal system inspires Martin to attempt the unthinkable.

I completely adore Human Centipede.
I had the opportunity to review it for this site back when it first came out in 2009, and for whatever reason the film stuck with me (probably because of how fucked up parts of it are). It was one of those extremely different horror films, and it had the ability to be more and more enjoyable every time I viewed it, which might say something about me, but still. A few months ago, I found out that even though the naming convention would lead you to think there was going to be a second film at some point back in 2009 (with the original film having the subtitle "First Sequence"), I didn't realize that "Full Sequence" was definitely going to be a film. Now it is, now it's out, and if you know anything about the series, you know it's going to be disturbing.
Martin [Laurence Harvey] is a 30 to 40 year old man who is a Human Centipede super fan. (Yes, this film takes place in a world where the first movie exists.) He watches the film on a constant loop at his job, he has a scrapbook of some of his favorite film moments, diagrams of how the original Human Centipede was assembled, basically anything related to the movie. Pretty much right from the get go, we also find out he's crazy as shit, and wants to make his own human centipede from people he captures while he's at work. Don't worry about Martin though, as he still lives at home with his Mom who pretty much thinks he's a worthless piece of shit as well.
Mom [Maddi Black] has her own problems, dealing with her own murderous tendencies and the fact that Martin's father left them because he was touching Martin when Martin was a child. Though their "bonding moments" in the film, Martin's mom calls a psychiatrist to look at Martin, and she mentions the fact that Martin keeps mumbling something about a centipede. The doctor says about how a centipede is a phallic symbol that represents strength, and all sorts of other "doctor" things that help show how messed up Martin is from his childhood, as well as helps build more ties between him and his centipede making desire.
As the film progresses, we find that Martin doesn't so much want to just make a human centipede, but he actually wants to make his own version of the movie with real people. Martin, not to be outdone by a silly film, wants to go big with his centipede and hook up a lot more people together in that famous ass-to-mouth pose from the first film. Since the first film was only 3 people, that's why it was the "First Sequence", and since Martin wants to go bigger, it's the "Full Sequence"...obviously.
Without ruining the story (which might seem ruined, but is definitely nowhere close to revealed), there's a lot of cool moments as the plot progresses that you might not seem coming, and there's a lot of things that will just make you literally say "What. The. Fuck." There's actually two distinct visuals (that happen right after each other) that I will probably see in my nightmares. It's so creepy and off-putting, but that just tells me that it's stepping up and being disturbing in a time where most horror films are going for the same scares over and over.
The blood and gore in HC2 is extremely gross and realistic (like the first film), and they once again used practical effects for any sort of injury or gore instead of going the computer generated route that a lot of films started using instead. This throwback to old school cinema is a really awesome touch when it comes to the grit and grime of the film, and it goes extremely well with the fact that Human Centipede 2 is in all black and white. In the beginning of watching this, I thought it would lose some of it's luster (or my attention) by being black and white the entire time, but for some reason, I feel like it really adds something to the film, like it makes it "dirty".
And let's talk about Martin. Laurence Harvey was a brilliant choice for Martin, and I would be hard pressed to see anyone else in the role now. One thing I gave the first film a lot of credit for was how creepy Dieter Laser was in his role as the evil doctor, and how much he brought to the table. Again, in HC2, the lead [Martin] completely dominates his part, and as fucked up and possibly rude as it sounds, part of the reason he's amazing is because just looks like a creepy killer/psychopath. I don't know if it's just purely his looks, or the strange facial expressions and ticks he constantly makes, but he just SEEMS like a maniac.
To close this out, all I can say is that coming into this I had really high expectations and I was waiting for them to be crushed in a bad way. Human Centipede 2 went above and beyond the level of disturbing that the first one created, and I can only really hope that there's a third one just so see if they can one-up this nonsense one more time. Once again, this movie shows that it just might be okay to go ass-to-mouth.
10/10.

Loved this movie, and it topped the original in
just about every way. The ending was a bit of a
let-down, but that could be because the unrated
cut isn't out yet (I purchased this though Xbox
VOD). Even in its cut form though, this film will
make you cry.

I totally agree, it is an amazing movie. I had
expectations of the first movie that were let
down. The 2nd one delivered all the gore and
agony that I wanted.

There really is no need for me to comment on this
but I will do it anyway. The people who like the
first film will, for the most part, like the
second. I didn't love the first film but thought
it was very well shot and rather entertaining and
not nearly as revolting as people had led me to
believe. What made the original work was that it
wasn't all gore and all gut-wrenching - it had a
plot and was aiming for something. The sequel
aims for nothing except to turn the stomach. As a
film, it's the lowest form of dreck. I think Tom
Six is a fine horror director and I think he has
far better films in him than this. #2 on my worst
films of the year list. 1/10.

I second Billy Ray, on all counts. I also believe
this one completely failed to even manage the
stomach-turning it attempted, and just ended up
being massively boring more than anything. The
first one was cute in a lot of ways.
Tongue-in-cheek jabs at its own exploitation roots
and all. It's like this one assumed that its only
sales point was enough to hoist a whole movie
on... Good God was it not. As a sequel, it
aims to do nothing but sell its shit (LOL), as a
movie... its just awful. 1/10 A solid point
for being so laughably obnoxious that it actually
added that one BIT of color. Fuck you, Six. Part
three should probably be an actual movie.
