A tribe of royal guardians, called the Takamikazushi, are exiled to a foreign land after the monarchy falls. In this new land, they earn the reputation as ruthless assassins. A young member of this group learns of her royal ancestry and is forced to run from the assassin group that had her mother killed. The Takamikazushi, afraid to lose any secret information, hunt after the young girl, Yuki. She hops in the back of a truck and eludes her fellow assassins, now bent on killing her. This truck leads her to a secluded gas station, owned by Takashi and his sister. This young man is haunted by unhappiness and murder. Trying to find happiness after his family was brutally murdered, he is taken in by a man who promises happiness, but for a price. Upon meeting Yuki and learning of her past as a killer, he makes a bold effort to escape his past as well.

Their stories combine in this film to create an excellent action movie, driven by a plot.

This movie has got a lot of sword fighting. The action scenes are jam packed with slices and dices. There's a lot of crazy things that these swordsman do, as well. In one scene, Yuki is on the ground about to get sliced by another assassin, when, as the blade comes down, she punches the person in the leg, making them buckle, then she grabs the sword in between her legs, whips the person around, then stabs them in the stomach with it. It's insane. There's more than one time she does this, and it's great to watch. There's a lot of group sword fights too, which are always fun to watch. There always seems to be one or two guys standing around and waving their swords aimlessly, though. There's always plenty of blood, too.

The cinematics in this film are quite unique. There are some incredible shots and angles. The opening scene is very artistic, as well as some of the ending scenes. There's also great CG work done in one scene. If you're into that sort of thing, keep your eyes open, as there's some great visuals.

The plot works nicely with the rest of the movie, but the ending seems a bit lacking. Things aren't as resolved as you'd like them to be. The hero wins, of course, but one is left wondering what she will do. It leaves a lot to wonder, but also lets the watcher come to their own conclusion. It's a good ending though, just not in that aspect.

As a whole, this film is worth a watch. It's dubbed in English, so you won't have to read any subtitles or listen to obnoxious voices (but there's a setting for that if you'd prefer). The dubbing fits nicely as well, and the voices match the lips, for the most part. So if you enjoy a good sword-action movie, or want an action movie with a somewhat creative plot, I'd give this a watch or two. Go rent it some time; it's worth it. 8/10
