Gentle Glen is a ventriloquist's dummy, the offspring of evil doll Chucky and his doll bride, both of whom are now deceased. When the orphaned Glen hears that a film is being made about his parents, he goes to Hollywood and resurrects them in an attempt to get to know them better. He is horrified when Chucky and his lover embark on a new killing spree, and Chucky is equally horrified that his son has no taste for evil.

The fourth sequel in the Child's Play series follows in the footsteps of Bride Of Chucky in that nearly all of the horror elements have been thrown out the window in favor of comedy with a bit of gore. Here, we find out that Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) and Tiffany (voiced by Jennifer Tilly) had a child at some point, and somehow or another, this child wound up in the UK. There, the child (voiced by Billy Boyd) plays a ventriloquist's dummy under the name of Shitface, but longs to find and meet his parents. While watching television one day, he sees an "interview" with the stars of "Chucky Goes Psycho", which is the newest Child's Play film... and yep, you guessed it, the stars are Chucky and Tiffany. Of course, the child realizes that these are his / her parents, so he / she heads off to Hollywood in order to meet them. Upon arriving, he / she resurrects them using the amulet found throughout the series, and the two of them are quite shocked to find out that they have a child of their own. The only problem with the relationship is that none of them can quite figure out whether or not this child is male or female. Chucky wants a boy, so he dubs the child Glen... however, Tiffany wants a daughter and names the child Glenda. The child is just as confused as us in the audience. The new parents decide to give up killing and settle down as a family, but in order to do that, they need to transfer their souls into human hosts. The plan winds up involving Tiffany transferring her soul into Jennifer Tilly, the woman that plays her in the movie-within-a-movie, and for Chucky to transfer his soul over to Redman's body, who is the man responsible for directing the latest telling of Jesus Christ's life. During the process, they'll impregnate Jennifer Tilly with Chucky's sperm, force her to have the baby, and then transfer Glen / Glenda's soul over to it. Of course, a few problems arise as the movie progresses, but isn't that to be expected?
This is really one of those love-it or hate-it types of films. Most viewers would probably fall into one category or the other as there's really little room for a middle ground, and although I wouldn't place it in my top ten movies of the year list or anything like that, I'm leaning more towards the former of the choices. I could see how some viewers may be turned off by the overwhelmingly comedy side of things, but let's be honest folks... it's the fifth movie in a series dedicated to a killer doll. How long did you expect the series to stay deadly serious?
I think that the storyline was the best part of the movie. Again, those looking for a straight-forward horror movie will disagree with me on this, but looking at the movie as more of a comedy than a horror, the storyline works out quite nicely. It keeps the same feel of the characters and the general mythos from the previous entries, but puts a completely different comedic spin on everything. This results in a movie that still feels fresh, even with four chapters behind it. The numerous celebrity references sprinkled throughout the film also made things more enjoyable, with the Britney Spears murder and the Julia Roberts speech coming in near the top of my favorite scenes.
Of course, even though this movie is mainly a comedy, it's still an entry in the Child's Play series. Rest assured, there's plenty of gruesome murders to be witnessed here. As a disclaimer here, I've only seen the unrated / extended version of the film... I didn't see the theatrical release, nor did I see the rated DVD. Therefore, I have no idea what was stripped from those versions and was new to the version I watched, but things were definitely on the gory side in this version. There's a pretty sweet decapitation-by-wire sequence which was very reminiscent of the excellent opener of the (otherwise dreadful) Ghost Ship, and a scene which actually makes good use of CGI effects (gasp!) to create a melting skin effect. Fans of gore certainly won't be disappointed with these (and other) death scenes which are chock-full of the red stuff.
Overall, I found this one to be entertaining enough. It's certainly nothing memorable and I doubt it'll win any type of "best-of" awards from yours truly, but it was an entertaining eighty minutes. There's a good deal of murders, some nice effects, a good storyline, plenty of laughs, and a setup for yet another sequel. What more could you want from an entry in this series? 7/10.

I love the Chucky
films. I especially love these later ones where
they arent so much in it for the horror as the
laughs. Yeah, dont go into this looking for a
horror, its not, at all. The kills are pretty
creative, the plot (altho throwing some wrenches
into some gears of the earlier flicks) it pretty
simplistic but it has its moments. THe end is
great (Um, yeah, about those gears tho).
Oh, and Ill watch ANYTHING with Jennifer Tilly,
shes the best.
