After a car crash, a criminal psychologist comes to, only to find that she's a patient in the same mental institution that currently employs her. It seems she's been accused of murdering her husband -- but she has no memory of committing the crime. Miranda is a psychologist at the Woodward Penitentiary, a mental hospital. After leaving work one night, she almost runs down a girl standing in the middle of the road. Luckily, she swerves and misses her, but wrecks her car. She gets out and tries to talk to the girl, but finds the girl is hurt and offers to take her to the hospital, but at this moment, the girl goes nuts. Cut scene, and we find Miranda locked up in the hospital she used to work at. Apparently, she had went home and killed her husband after this encounter, but has no memory of it whatsoever. Why did she do it? What happened that she's not remembering? What's up with all the ghostly happenings at the hospital? She tries to piece together everything that happened, and that's our movie.

Semi-decent psychological thriller here. It has an interesting storyline, and it was relatively entertaining, but the general plot has been done to death in the last few years. Having seen a few movies in the genre, everything was pretty predictable, and in the end, I found I was right about almost every guess I had. It also had the typical sort of ending, where everything makes sense upon a grand revelation, but really, the possibility of whatever happening (not even including the paranormal stuff) is just outrageous. But I suppose with a whopping cup of reality suspension, this could be overlooked.

I didn't really enjoy Halle Berry's performance in this movie, either. There was really nothing I could put my finger on as to why she bothered me, but she just did. She seems a bit out of place, I suppose. One of the other inmates, Chloe (Penélope Cruz), did a decent enough job in her role, but she really wasn't a big part of the movie. The rest of the cast was so-so, nothing too bad, but certainly nothing memorable.

Overall, worth a rental if you're a fan of "The Sixth Sense", "What Lies Beneath", and "Stir Of Echoes" type movies, but don't expect anything too original. 4/10.

SPOLIER WARNING:

I don't understand how Halle can get out of jail or the hospital in the end of the movie, she still killed her husband and that other guy right?
