Mari and Phyllis are on their way to see a Bloodlust concert, when they decide they need some grass to take along with them. They see Junior standing outside his hotel room, and ask him if he knows where they can score some. He takes them up to his room, where his accomplices are waiting. We have Weasel, your typical gangster guy with a switchblade; Sadie, a bisexual chick who seems to be the group slut; and Krug, the leader of the pack. Krug gives Junior some heroin (his fix) as a reward for bringing the ladies up to the room. Some cutting takes place, and they leave the next morning. They end up in some woods, just across the street from Mari's house. Here, the gang decides to humiliate, torture, and rape these two girls.
The scenes with the gangsters and the girls were very nicely done; however, I suppose Craven decided it was too edgy, so he had to keep throwing in comedic relief which ruined the flow of the movie. Everytime it'd really start going, we'd cutscene to the bumbling cops trying to get to the house, or the parents setting up a birthday party, or a chicken lady, or... yeah, it got a bit annoying after a while. If all that nonsense had been cut out, we'd be left with a much better, albeit much shorter, movie.
The idea for this movie was done again in a lesser known title known as House On The Edge Of The Park. It even stars the same main guy, in an almost carbon-copy role. However, in my humble opinion, House On The Edge Of The Park is a much better movie than this one. The story flows much nicer, it's more entertaining, and the acting is much better. If you liked this movie, you should definitely check out Park. If you liked Park, you may like this one, although it's quite a step down in quality.
5/10.

5/10!? This movie is classic. Although I do have
to agree, I found House On The Edge Of The Park
enjoyable too.

Had this been seen in the seventies by me, I still
wouldn't have had a positive thing to say about it
and would have certainly gave it a lower rating.

I enjoyed this, I don't know why, I thought it was
simple and straight to the point.. and the end
with the father is awesome

I agree with the review. This movie is known as a
cult-classic and one of Craven's best... it
wasn't. I didn't like it and I still don't.
"House On the Edge Of the Park" is 10 times
better and much more fun to watch... this one was
boring and un-impressive until the end when the
dad gets the chainsaw... 3/10

You could tell what he wanted to do with this
movie, but he couldn't pull it off. Girl dies,
parents find out, kill people who did it. Simple
enough concept, but there was no logic in the way
he pieced it all together. And the dad setting up
little traps was just stupid. Walk upstairs, and
shoot them in bed. Problem solved.

Guh, this movie is simply terrible. I agree with
the comic relief, it was just unnecessary and
dumb. This movie let me down. big fat 2/10. Purely
awful.

....why in the hell did I watch this again? I
suck. I saw this a few years ago after hearing how
"great" it was, etc. Needless to say I
hated it. I gave it a second chance last night and
paid more attention to it. This movie is simply
trash, there is absolutely nothing good about this
movie at all. People who like it should be shot.
And that stupid final act.....I liked it better
when it was called Home Alone.
