It was a normal night in Las Vegas, Nevada, all the lights were flashing brightly, until a man with one hand, one eye, and one leg walks into a pawn shop with a statue of a hideous looking Leprechaun. The owner claims it's a good luck charm. The statue also wore a medallion around it's neck. The careless pawn shop owner took off the medallion setting the Leprechaun free... --TMDb

You'd the think the failure of the last movie would have taught Trimark a lesson. But no, Leprechaun 3 came hot on its heels, albeit directly to video. This time our evil Irish friend is terrorizing Las Vegas.

A pawn shop owner getting ready to close up for the night is suddenly startled by a man running in with a heavy bag in tow; inside is a statue of a leprechaun with a silver medallion around its neck. The man hurries out, leaving fair warning not to take the medallion off. Of course, the advice is not heeded, and seconds after the medallion is off of the statue it comes to life. After terrorizing the owner, he's eventually driven off by the medallion, but drops a shilling while racing out the door. Meanwhile, while passing through the Strip, Scott nearly runs down a woman stranded on the side of the road. He gives the girl, Tammy, a lift to work and gets her to sneak him into the casino, since he's never been in one before. Once inside, he catches the gamblin' feva, and quickly blows through the $23,000 his parents gave him for college. In despair, he goes to pawn his watch at the same shop from before. Inside, he finds the lost shilling and learns the coin can grant him a wish, which he uses on a winning streak back at the casino. Before he knows it, he's got a hundred grand in his pocket and a very pissed off leprechaun hunting him down. During an attack, the creature ends up bleeding into one of Scott's wounds. Obviously, this has some rather adverse effects on the boy, and he quickly runs to Tammy for help. The two are running out of time as Scott's transformation is speeding up, and of course, nothing is easy while on the run from a homicidal leprechaun.

First, let's talk about what they did right. They finally added a Celtic tone to the background music. Considering it's a movie about a leprechaun, this should have been blatantly obvious. As it stands, this move was the only real positive. On the other hand, there are negatives enough to go around. The biggest offender is the pacing. Talk about a boring movie. While the leprechaun in this franchise is usually quite a fun character, he's not used nearly enough. Instead we're treating to long scenes of these people we don't give a damn about doing things we don't give a damn about. They tried to throw in these subplots about the magician's ego or the casino owner owing some guy money, but all this did was add more drag. Who wants to listen to a five minute conversation between this guy and his thug over what kind of underwear they prefer? I wish I was making that up.

The skill level of our thespians comes in a close second. Of course, Warwick Davis is our leprechaun once again. Nothing new here, although the rhyming has gotten out of control. Sure, he would spit out a couplet here or there, but now he's got one every five minutes. I know that's the script and not his fault, but still. Our two main 'heroes' are played by John Gatins and Lee Armstrong. I'm not entirely sure which one was worse; their awful deliveries had me cringing more often than not. The various supporting characters were better, although nothing memorable. The best performance in the whole movie was the pawn shop owner, who becomes the butt of one of the leprechaun's better jokes, exclaiming "I love Indian food! It's so spicy!" after biting his toe off.

I'm really not sure how this got greenlit, never mind the fact that three sequels followed. It would have taken a lot more than the luck of the Irish to save this movie. Luck they apparently didn't have. 1/10

I actually liked this one better than part 2. I loved the part where he makes the girl get fatter and fatter and she can't fit out the door because her ass is too fat, then she blows up.
