We start off seeing dear old Uncle Cyrus and a team of ghost hunters at a junkyard, where they're trying to capture a ghost inside a special ghost-box. The ghost, Hammer, kills quite a few people before being trapped inside the box; as the camera pans over, we see that Cyrus was one of them. Cut-scene over to his darling nephew, Arthur, who is raising his kids along with a maid after his wife had died in a fire. Cyrus' lawyer pops in and informs Arthur that he's the sole beneficiarie of his uncles estate, that being a house. Once they get there, they realize it's full of the ghosts that Cyrus was hunting, and somehow, the ghosts are released into the house.

Now then; this was a good movie in some aspects, and suck in others. Let's start with the good. The effects they used were marvelous... the ghosts looked quite spooky, and the few kills we got were excellently done. We see one guy split completely in half in one of the best scenes of the movie. The scenery and stages were also nicely done, and the house was pretty neat as well.

Now, the other side of the coin. The storyline was decent, although it seemed too dumbed down as it went... like, it had a really nice theme going, and they decided it would go over the kiddies heads too much, so they took out any goodness that might have been there. The cast they chose was horrid; the actors / actresses weren't bad themselves, they just didn't fit in this type of movie. Matthew Lillard is quite nice as an actor in comedies, but in horror, he just kills any sort of mood that may have been set by the scenes. There's too much comedy used by him and the others throughout the movie; some may not mind it, but I don't care too much for a scene being built up, then everyone dropping two or three jokes. Here and there would be alright, but not ever goddamned scene. Rah Digga did alright as an actress, but once again, rappers do not belong in horror. It just never works out. Similar gripes could be had about the rest of the cast, except for the ghosts themselves; those were pulled off nicely.

Basically, if you want a movie with some nice kills (albeit, only a few) and some great visuals, check this out. If you want a good horror flick, look elsewhere. 4/10.

Yes, the visuals were amazing. The film overall, was not. Rent it for sure. I'd question buying this.

Sadly, I bought the DVD. I watch it sometimes and it still makes me giggle. The acting and dialogue were terrible but the ghosts in there were excellent. The makeup was believeable. A must see.

Whats wrong with you people? This WAS a good horror movie. I've said it before, I'll say it again, NO REMAKE IS AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL! This movie wasn't scary, the acting wasn't good, but the story was solid, not as good as the original mind you, but it provided that atmosphere of completeness that so many horror remakes lack, the ghost were totally awsome. Especially The Jackal, that's a charecter that sticks with you. My only real blow to this movie was that it was so damn short. If it were only longer it would've rocked a bit more. 8/10. Suck it, critics.

Not a fan of the movie but the ghosts were nice. Escpecially the dire mother and her enormous baby (although they were only in a few scenes). 5/10

In the special edition DVD, you get to see all the ghosts profiles. How they were murdered, their names, etc. 9/10.
