Does anyone remember the days when movie parodies were actually funny? I sure do. These days Hollywood keeps pumping out garbage like Meet the Spartans and Superhero Movie. Name me one person who actually enjoyed those movies who isn't a simple minded idiot. We had a few gems in the past 10 years like the first Scary Movie and Shaun of the Dead, but while these movies are great (more so Shaun of the Dead) they still can't seem to help parodies get back on their feet and become funny again. The only way that they can get a fresh start is if someone kills Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg. There, I said it. These two have done nothing but ruin the genre in my opinion, pumping out garbage after garbage. I do realize that Aaron was one of the writers of the first Scary Movie, but I would have to say that I'm pretty sure the Wayans brothers had a little more input than what Aaron had to offer.

But enough with my pointless rambling, let me take you back when parodies were still funny. Most action movies eventually get spoofed one way or another. The winner this time is our great American Hero Rambo. After the success of the first Hot Shots, a sequel was bound to show up sooner or later, and they picked a great franchise to spoof.

This movie takes the best of Rambo: First Blood Part 2 and Rambo 3 and throws them all together. After Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen) leaves the Air Force, he decides to leave America all together to start a new life. But little does he know that the US needs his help once again. A group of Americans who went in to rescue a team who tried to rescue a team who tried to rescue survivors of the Persian Golf war were eventually caught and taken prisoner by Saddam Hussein. Get that? Now the US needs Topper's help to rescue the whole bunch and bring them back to USA. But is Topper willing to lend his hand? He eventually agrees and he gathers a team to make his move. Along the way he meets up with old friend Ramada (Valeria Golino) who appears to be on her own mission searching for a man named Dexter Hayman (Rowan Atkinson). They agree to join forces and help each other out. There's really not much else I can say about the plot other than what has been told. Like a Rambo movie, it's just move here, blow this up, move there, blow that up. But this time instead of mindless explosions, its mindless comedy, but in a good way.

The cast does a great job with their performances. Everyone gets their chance to make the audience laugh, and I think that they each succeed. Rambo fans will recognize one of the prisoners at the camp, Mr Richard Crenna who's known for playing the character Col. Samuel Trautman. He plays Col. Denton Walters who is imprisoned in a battered wooden jail that is easily escapable, but still needs Toppers help to get out. This scene is probably my favourite in the entire movie. Every time I watch it I'm in tears laughing. I find it just perfect. This movie doesn't stop making you laugh until the credits roll. From scene to scene the writers have come up with something that will at least give you a small giggle. Now the movie isn't perfect though, it does have its flaws. My main problem with this movie is the ending. I just seems too random and is a let down for me. I know people who liked it, but I just didn't dig it.

I don't know what it is, but I just can't get enough of this movie. I've seen it countless times and have yet to begin to get sick of it. It's just a shame that parodies like this are no longer made. Actually, I find it almost sickening that this has been replaced with you know what. Fans of the first Hot Shots should love this one. It's not perfect, but I guarantee you will find yourself laughing every now and then. A short review for a funny film where I just want to say "Watch it, it's great."

8/10.

This sequel was better than the original. This is my type of comedy. For its genre, easily a 10/10.

I'm with Meanie, this is much better than the first one. Probably the best parody film, next to Airplane!
