Review by Bill Wolford
Added: October 23, 2011
It's time for another 50 pack review. This time it's the Drive-In Movie Classics 50 pack. Mine is a reissue. It has the same cover as the old velcro cardboard case, but it's now housed in a large clamshell case. There is a newer version with a slightly different cover out now. If there are any differences in the films, I'll make sure to note it after the movie synopsis. Another thing I noticed about this set is that there were some movies listed on the DVD hub itself that weren't actually the movies on the disc. For example. Disc 11 side A states on the DVD hub a movie called, "Why Shoot The Teacher?". When actually on the disc and all other packaging is the film "Island Monster" in its place. I'm not complaining, as I believe it was probably thought to be in the public domain, then found out at the last minute that it wasn't. Public domain can be tricky sometimes, but so can Mill Creek.

I believe the best reason for picking up this particular set is because of all of the genres that it covers. Drama, Kung-Fu, Horror, action, euro-trash, sci-fi, suspense and even a western of sorts are all in this 50 pack. This should probably be recommended to a first time buyer so they can get a sampling of what Mill Creek is all about. These are NOT all movies that were played at the drive in. But that's all right. Moon of the Wolf was a 1972 Made for TV ABC movie of the week. It's a great little film, but as far as I know, it never played on the drive-in circuit. There is also a better print of this out now that you can track down if you are so inclined. I believe I will be doing just that.

Now on to the movies in this 50 pack.

And there you have fifty films from many genres. I tried to point out alternate titles where I could and films to find a better print of, because they are worth the extra money to see a better transfer of them. Mill Creek does shine in bringing us movies that are not on DVD at all, or finding interesting gems that we can go out and track down better prints of later on. That's why I love Mill Creeks products, and why you should as well. 7/10.
