Connections: Cutie Honey

When Honey's uncle gets kidnapped by the evil criminal gang known as "Panther Claw," she must use her magical powers of transformation (fueled by love) to save him. Meanwhile the same crime group has been responsible for a number of other crime sprees across Tokyo. In the process, Honey teams up with the seemingly cold police woman Natsuko Aki and hot shot journalist Seiji Hayami as well as battle the four "claws" of the Panther Claw gang to save her uncle and the rest of the city. --TMDb

Kisaragi Honey died in a car crash one year prior to the current time. Her father recreated her body and brought her back to life using the I-System. The I-System is a part of her choker that not only keeps her alive, but also gives her super powers when she calls for them. The super powers which make her become Cutie Honey. On one morning During Kisaragi Honey's bath, she gets a disturbing call from her uncle as he struggles for his life against an unknown assailant. With no energy to transform, she grabs the only clothes near, a trash bag. She runs through town to find a store so she can eat and gain energy.

Once her energy is restored, she transforms into Cutie Honey and flies to her uncle. Gold Claw, one of four of Sister Jill's minions, is surrounded by hundreds police officers while holding Cutie Honey's uncle captive. When Chief Nat-chan tries to make Gold Claw surrender, she reveals all of the police officers surrounding her are really part of her clan and then surround Nat-chan. As they're told to kill her, Cutie Honey rescues her and starts the battle with Gold Claw. She seems to be no match for her as she crushes the road with her gold hair and fires off her gold cannon. But just as she begins to fly away, Cutie Honey calls on her boomerang, chopping off Gold Claw's hair and bringing down her uncle as she saves the day.

A news reporter, who calls himself Seiji, tries to get some answers out of everyone. Nat-chan tries to place Cutie Honey and Seiji under arrest, but Cutie Honey breaks off the handcuffs and takes off as Seiji gets away himself. The next day, Honey tries to figure out what's going on, so she dressed up at Nat-chan and asks several people at the police station what they know about the case. When she gets turned down by everyone, she starts to leave, but gets caught by Nat-chan. Seiji comes around not too long after and gives Honey a ride. But when they notice they are being followed by police officers, Honey has him drop her off. The two officers follow Honey, but when she turns a sharp corner, all they find is an unknown woman playing guitar and trying to make money.

As the officers walk away, upset they lost Honey, the woman picks up her guitar and walks into an alley, only to end up being Honey. Nay-chan manages to find her at her office job as she takes her out of her office for awhile to talk to her. She tries to get her to confess all she knows about Cutie Honey, but they are attacked by Honey's boss, which isn't really Honey's boss. Cobalt Claw, another one of the four from Sister Jill's group, killed Honey's boss and used her skin as a disguise. The three are trapped in an elevator as Nat-chan and Cobalt Claw watch Honey transform into Cutie Honey. Cobalt Claw seems to have Honey defeated as she bites her neck with her vampire like teeth. Not having any effect on Honey since she is an android, Honey grabs onto her and starts burning her with all of the energy she has left.

Nat-chan is saved once again by Honey as she puts an end to Cobalt Claw. But with no energy, she passes out in front of the elevator. Nat-chan tries to arrest her, but doesn't have the heart. She brings Honey to her house and helps her regain her energy. After she gets all of her strength back, Honey is asked to leave, and of course she does so. Not too long after. Seiji calls Nat-chan and has her come over. After getting there, Honey arrives soon after. Honey then comes across beer in his apartment, she downs two bottles, which gets her quite drunk. That would be the start of all three of them getting completely wasted. After singing karaoke and dancing, the three eventually pass out. The next morning, Nat-chan is the first to awake and leave.

Seiji and Honey get a call from Sister Jill's servant. Inviting them to join them for a party at their palace, Nat-chan gets the same call. After getting dressed for the occasion, the three each go their separate ways. When Honey arrives at the destination, a very large drill tunnels up from the ground and placing itself on land. There she finds Sister Jill's assistant informing her on the real reason she was asked to come. They have her uncle, but in order to get him back, she must fight against the last two remaining in Sister Jill's group. Scarlet Claw and Black Claw. Little does Honey know that she's actually there so Sister Jill can get her I-System choker and bring her eternal life.

Based on the comic book of Cutie Honey that began in 1973, the film took the everything to a whole new level. The actress playing Cutie Honey, Eriko Sato, looked nothing remotely like the girl from the comic, but she managed to be a much better character than what the comic book showed. Not only was she devastatingly attractive, but she was also very funny and managed to fight in ways the comic character never had. Some of her action scenes resembled action scenes of MTV's animation "Aeon Flux". But these were done with real people, no animation. The look to it had something no other movie has ever done.

All of the costumes were very detailed and colorful. Sister Jill was like tree roots, but with out the tree. Gold Claw was completely gold that had a long pony tail that could bring powerful damage to just about anything, along with a cannon attached to her right arm. Cobalt Claw had a Catwoman like costume that was made out of bondage. She would unzip different parts of her back that would bring out more hands to help her fight. She also had vampire teeth and could climb on walls. Scarlet Claw had a costume that resembled a traditional Japanese kabukiwoman. She carried an antique umbrella with her and was able to shoot a powerful ball of fire out of her mouth. Black Claw had half of her face painted white and the other black. She was able to turn into a tornado and even sung her own theme song before she faced Cutie Honey.

The movie itself actually had a comic book feel to it, instead of an actual comic being made into a realistic life situation. Another gigantic plus was that it didn't only revolve around how Cutie Honey became a superhero like every other comic to film movie being made. It is explained how she became what she was, but that was in the middle of the film and didn't last longer than five minutes, which is also presented as an animation. The action scenes had unbelievably amazing effects and very well done fighting scenes. Every scene was greatly detailed. The script was brilliant, the story rocked, and the acting had no flaws. This is by far the best and most originally done film made from a comic book to date. It's going to be extremely hard for another superhero film to beat Cutie Honey.
