One day, the owner of the local ghetto liquor store goes poking around in the store basement looking for something. After moving some boxes around, he notices that there's a hole in the wall covered up by some boards. He decides to investigate, and inside this hole, he finds a crate stuffed with Tenafly Viper. This booze stinks and is quite old, so the store owner decides to sell it for a mere buck per bottle to the local bum population. Unbeknownst to both the store owner and the bums, however, this liquor is quite potent... so potent, in fact, that it causes the drinker to immediately melt away into a pile of gory goo after taking a sip. There's more to the storyline, mostly dealing with a pair of homeless brothers named Fred (Mike Lackey) and Kevin (Marc Sferrazza), but honestly... it's a disgusting movie about people melting, peppered with jokes aimed at those with a sick sense of humor. What more do you want?

Fans of those old Troma flicks will definitely get a kick out of this, even though Lloyd Kaufman would probably kick your ass for mentioning it in his presence. You see, this movie feels like a Troma film from start to finish, but those kids from Troma had nothing to do with it... perhaps that's why Kaufman and the boys behind Street Trash have a feud going on. Anywho, with all of the bickering and gossiping aside, this movie turned out to be every b-movie fans' wet dream. The storyline, if I were to go into detail about it past the point I stopped at in my above summary, is quite silly and would probably come off as pretty lame to those who have not seen this. However, this movie is sort of like a retard (err, mentally-handicapped person)... you know you shouldn't look and you know you shouldn't laugh, but you just can't help yourself. Yes, just like the lovable Timmy in South Park, this movie draws you in and won't let you walk away before the credits have started to roll.

Part of what makes this film so enjoyable is the great gore effects. You haven't seen the best in trash moments (pardon the pun) until you've watched a man melting away into a toilet bowl who manages to flush himself while trying to crawl out. So yes, the gorehounds in the audience will get a kick out of the movie, but there's also plenty of comedic elements involved which make things that much more enjoyable. With that said though, I will also say this... if you don't find the thought of a bunch of bums playing a game of keep-away with a freshly-severed penis (complete with slow-motion, game-winning throws) to be completely hilarious, or if the thought of an obese man getting syphilis after having sex with a just-been-gangbanged-to-death corpse turns your stomach, well... this movie may not be for you. As I mentioned, the movie will definitely appeal to the sicker kids in the audience, but you will definitely want this DVD in your collection if you fall into that category.

A classic slice of eighties trash has finally received the uncut DVD release that it deserves thanks to the swell fellows over at Synapse. While the disc is bare-bones (nothing to be found here other than the movie itself and the trailer), the transfer looks incredible and the movie itself is worth your cash. 9/10.
