In this quickly-released sequel to 2000's Scary Movie, we find the same style of parodying humor and gross-out comedy... only this time, it's 1999's The Haunting that serves as the main inspiration. A professor (Tim Curry) decides to set up some sort of experiment at the aptly-named Hell House in order to prove to the world that ghosts exist. According to his assistant Dwight (David Cross), the best way to do this is to put people in the house and scare them... and, the best people to use are those who have had near-death experiences. Enter most of the cast from the first movie; Cindy (Anna Faris), Ray (Shawn Wayans), Shorty (Marlon Wayans) and Brenda (Regina Hall) return for the sequel, and they are joined by new-comers Buddy (Chris Masterson), Theo (Kathleen Robertson), and Alex (Tori Spelling). The group arrives at the house, where they meet the disgusting caretaker Hanson (Chris Elliott), and soon meet up with the ghosts that are haunting the house.

I thought the first movie in this series was hilarious, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The sequel seems to get a bad rep from most, with the chief complaint being that it doesn't even begin to compare to the original in the quality department. The second common complaint seems to be that the script was rushed, and as a result, the material found here is severely lacking. While I'll agree that this sequel wasn't quite as good as the original, it wasn't as bad as many have made it out to be. If you didn't enjoy the first one, you'd more than likely hate this one as well... but if you, like me, got some hearty laughs out of the first one, this sequel will do the same for you.

In my review for the first entry in the series, I wrote: "Admittedly, the comedy found here is low-brow and juvenile; farts, male anatomy, and other such topics are the biggest punchlines throughout the running time, so that may very well put some viewers off. If that happens to be a style of movies that you enjoy, on the other hand, you may very well find yourself laughing from start to finish, much as I did." Throw in even more weed jokes, and the exact same thing applies here. The style of humor certainly isn't for everyone, but it certainly drew more than a couple of laughs out of both me and my woman. The one thing that I particularly enjoyed about this sequel was the fact that my only complaint from the original was answered - far more films receive the parody treatment, if only for a short scene. What Lies Beneath, Hollow Man, Charlie's Angels, Hannibal, and even that Nike basketball-dribbling commercial turn up throughout the film. Sadly, however, two out of the three best parody sequences (the extended What Lies Beneath section and the additional Hollow Man part) were cut and ended up in the deleted scenes section of the DVD. Yes, there were three great parody scenes that topped the laughter charts, and two were cut; however, the third and by far the best spot serves as the opener of the film. James Woods and Andy Richter serve as two priests attempting to exorcise the demons out of Natasha Lyonne in a gut-busting parody of The Exorcist, in what has to be the best scene from either of the first two movies (and maybe the series as a whole - I haven't seen the third one yet).

Once again, I'm going to borrow from my review of the first film here and say that this is definitely worth a rental for fans of parodies and / or gross-out comedies. If you've seen the first entry in the series and enjoyed it, you can't go wrong with this one. It's a small step down in quality, but not much. 7/10.

I personnaly think this is the worst of the series. Althought the first scene (the exorcist parody) is pretty good, the reste is crap. The third one is the best, the first one is a classic, and this one... well... you know.

In total agreement. The first scene with James Woods is one of the funniest sequences I have ever seen in my life, but it all goes downhill from there. The rest of the film just can't keep up the same kinetic energy and the film starts rehashing gags from the original. Not even Tim Curry could help pull this one out of the gutter. Thanks God for Mr. Zucker hitting the third and fourth installments. 5/10.

The person above is right about the first scene, I almost pissed myself laughing. However, the rest wasn't bad, but not really good either. 5/10
