Last Life In The Universe

Thanks for the review, I had looked at this title
numerous times being an Asanophile like yourself,
but I never pulled the trigger. I am excited to
check this one out now.

I'm going to have to agree with bluemeanie on this
one. My wife and I watched this and couldn't stop
laughing. My God, Cary Elwes' performance was
soooo over the top I couldn't contain my laughter.
Worst performance ever, (until Billy Drago took a
steaming dookie on Imprint). Also, I thought the
ending was a bit telegraphed. Sorry folks, Saw is
crap.

I thought this film was successful on numerous
counts, Béatrice Dalle was extremely
intense (and holy shit that was awesome when she
would just appear from the shadows and then slink
back) and the premise was pretty disturbing even
though it was a touch banal. I enjoyed the film
until (as many have already put it) the final act
came into play. What really got me was the
"zombie" cop who started beating on
Sarah at the end. What the fuck, the movie
retained a gritty realism for quite a while
(except for the less than intelligent moves from
some of the bodies-to-be) and then, POW, I'm
transported into a zombie movie. Not that I don't
enjoy zombie flicks (I love them in fact) or the
synergy you can get from genre amalgamation, but
the "zombie cop" just felt disjointed
and weak.

I don't want to give away anything from the movie
but the climax of this film had me chuckling for
days. Chan-Wook is truly amazing and I can't wait
for Thirst (Evil Live)!
