Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen
|
|
Last I checked community rating on RT was 69%.
I saw it last week, it wasn't bad. I mean
it's a movie about robots blowing the hell out of
each other. I don't see how people can go into it
looking for depth in story or characters we can
relate to. That said it could've easily had about
30 minutes cut off.
5/10. I expected
explosions, CGI fights and more explosions, and it
delivered.

Eden Lake

Might be one or two years late on the whole
"hoodie culture", but it's still
brutally faithful to the stereotype. One of those
horror movies where you feel it could happen,
especially living in the UK. 8/10

Funny Games
|
|
When I first watched it I didn't see the hype
behind it. It felt like it was trying too hard to
be clever, especially with the long drawn out
shots. Straight after the movie finished though, I
"got" it. It feels as though the viewer
is part of the game as much as the family with the
constant fourth wall breaks. It certainly isn't a
masterpiece, and there are plenty of plot holes,
but it was a good watch. Maybe if I watch it again
knowing more about it I'll appreciate it more.

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane
|
|
For a slasher movie, I liked it. There's some
really interesting direction, and Mandy always
comes off as mysterious. The kills are also really
good too, nice and fun to watch. 8/10.

The Strangers
|
|
Terrible movie, especially for a horror film. I
enjoyed the beginning. Setting up the characters
and their situation (Which was nicely believable
too) was great. Then it just went downhill. I had
to check how long I'd been watching 3 strangers
prance around the house and scare the hell out of
the 2 main characters. 56 minutes in and they were
still going at it. Not only that, but we get the
most anti-climactic kills ever. Fair enough, it's
based on real events. That doesn't automatically
make it a good movie, and certainly doesn't make
it good material to translate to film.
2/10.

Wanted
|
|
I ended up seeing this last night, and it was
interesting. I suppose for an action movie I
should just judge it on that, which was very
impressive when it picked up. Some scenes were a
little odd to me, and the CGI could be seen a mile
away. But the last 15 or so minutes really pay off
so I can forgive some of it's flaws. Fun movie
really.

Mortal Kombat
|
|
When you look at it for the storyline, it is just
a horrible movie. But the games aren't about that,
they are about cutting people up and finishing
them off in the most brutal ways possible. So in
that respect, the movie does it some justice. Not
to mention the characters all looked really cool
unlike Street Fighter. Good movie, think I'll save
my "Best video game-to-movie adaption"
award for Silent Hill though. 6/10

I remember seeing adverts for this on TV here in
the UK, and I really thought it looked bad. There
was no dialogue in them, and most scenes it showed
didn't show much happening. But I have heard lots
of good things about the movie, so I might end up
checking it out. I'm torn between what I've heard
about the movie and and what I've seen in a 30
second spot on TV.

American Psycho
|
|
I just saw this movie on Film Four and have to
agree. I kept watching to see if something would
happen, but it didn't. And now I feel stupid for
wasting an hour and a half on this movie. There
were a few funny moments considering how pathetic
these people's lives were, but other than that I
was kinda bored.

Juno
|
|
I don't really get how it can be pretentious? It
wasn't trying to do anything wild or out of the
ordinary. It just told a story about a pregnant
teenager, very well I might add. Every character
is likable, and it's just a very charming movie. I
wouldn't call it the best of the year, but it is
very good. It's funny one minute and just gets a
little more serious as time goes on, until the end
you are just happy for everyone. 8/10

The Girl Next Door
|
|
I remember reading about this movie on a forum
elsewhere, and just from what I've heard I cant
bring myself to watch it. Anything based off a
real thing that actually happens usually gets to
me, but when you add kids to that mix, that's me
done.

The Best Of RAW 15th Anniversary

This pretty much sounds like the best DVD WWE have
released besides from The Rise and Fall of ECW.
Wonder when it will be out here in the UK.

Knocked Up
|
|
Honestly, I expected more from this. I expected a
lot of the jokes, and felt Seth's crew of comics
weren't featured as much as they could be. Most of
the time, it just felt really boring to me. I
dunno, I might check it out again and see if my
feelings about the movie have changed. But right
now, this definitely isn't up there as one of the
best comedies of the year.

Dirty Sanchez: The Movie
|
|
The liposuction scene just killed me. I love the
Dirty Sanchez guys, being a native Brit. I've seen
them live, and they do put on a very "unique"
experience. Definitely not for the light-hearted,
but very funny if you are into seeing mates trying
to kill each other. 7/10

Halloween
|
|
I went into this objectively. I knew without a
shadow of a doubt that it couldn't stand against
the original. Remakes never do. But even has a
horror movie, it just feels flawed. The first half
is decent enough. It's stereotypical trailer
trash, but it could be worse. The transition of
Michael growing up is a little out of nowhere too,
but again, I can forgive that. The second half, in
Haddonfield, is fucking horrible though.
Everything moves too fast. Michael is everywhere.
He kills 2 people, then a short cut, and he's back
killing more people. It just feels very out of
place and too fast. The actors make up for it I
guess, since Dr Loomis and Laurie both have
brilliant actors. The ghost scene was a nice
throwback too. I dunno, I was just a little
underwhelmed. Without comparing this to the
previous Halloween films, it's still poor in terms
of horror.

Hot Fuzz
|
|
What made this movie so perfect for me is that it
was a brilliant mix of action parody and subtle
humour. Little bits like Nick and Danny diving
with guns blazing were only made better with the
over-the-top editing. The ending was the big
payoff, and the whole thing felt like a modern day
Wicker Man. Only, you know, funny. Simon and Nick
give great performances again, with Simon showing
a lot more energy in this than SotD. Then again,
he does have a lot more to do. Overall, one of the
best comedies, or even films, of the year. Smart,
funny, and one of the only action movies deserving
of that title. They pull it off so well, from the
murders to the chase scenes and gunfights, nothing
seems forced because it's just done so well. 9/10

Fight Club
|

This review has some of the strangest Recommended
Movies I've ever seen. As for the movie itself, I
think it's very good and has a nice clever plot,
but I do agree that it is overrated to an extent.
It does the book justice in my opinion, and it is
a very enjoyable watch. 8/10

The Wicker Man
|

I never saw the remake, but then again I think a
movie like this can't be remade. It's just so
eerie, I hate watching it because I get genuinely
creeped out by it. Truely a horror film which has
stood the test of time and still manages to scare
to this day. Good review.

Hostel
|

I'm quite tempted to see this after the arguments
on here now. I've heard it is a very gross-out
movie, which isn't really the kind I go for. I
thought Saw 2 was terrible, but done right it
might be good. I'll look into it anyway. Oh and
those last 2 comments are pretty stupid if you ask
me. If all you are going to do is insult the
reviewer, just don't bother. He has offered
arguments as to why he thinks this film sucks, and
you just basically say you hate him for it?

Saw II
|
|
I very much looked forward to this movie. Saw was
one of the best horror movies of late (Although
the lack of real competition might have helped it
along), and brought forward the desire for all-out
gore to the mainstream.
Sadly, Saw II
doesn't deliver on the same level. It feels
rushed, and after the success of the gritiness and
plot-weaving of the first film, this one is
essentially a slasher movie. Sure, they are all in
the house, but it subtlely turns into that kind of
movie. And aside from that needle scene (Quite
possibly one of the most disturbing things I've
seen in a movie), this offered little new ideas.
The ending was always bound to happen, and the
characters felt too distant, something I look for
in characters in horror movies. This feels churned
out and just a cheap carry of the title Saw. 3/10

Date Movie
|
|
When I even heard this title, I knew it was
destined to be crap. But I saw the trailer, and
realized that it was beyond crap. This is a movie
which PoW's should be made to watch during
interogation. I wouldn't go so far to say it's the
worst movie ever, but worst of 21st century? I'd
agree with that, even with another 94 years to go.
|
Doom
|
|
I don't rate this as much of a movie really. I'm a
fan of Doom, although I'm not an avid fan. Maybe
that's what makes this so hard and bland for me to
watch. I found a lot of scenes to just be soldiers
walking around with nothing happening, and then
someone dies. The plot felt non-existant at times,
and the sets were pretty boring for the most part.
There were some good bits though (The BFG, the
first-person shot, a certain eyebrow-raising
"star" being killed). 4/10

Wolf Creek
|
|
I just saw it, man that is a brutal film. It's so
weird seeing the main character get killed off
first, but I guess she had it coming. I honestly
couldn't watch a bit of the torture scene, it felt
so damn real. John's character is just psychotic,
and I think the fact you need really know why he
does it makes his character that much more
terrifying. A great horror flick in a seemingly
bland time for the genre

Does anyone know when this is out on DVD? Also,
here's one of the posters for it, a beautiful shot

Batman Begins
|
|
A nearly flawless movie, this had me sucked in
from the beginning. I love the fact that you don't
see the actual Batman character until so far into
the film. Although the Scarecrow's part in the
film was a little short, I do feel he had a major
effect. Overall, this movie was amazing. It's back
to the gritty ways of Gotham, and I loved it

People with dial-up?

Saw
|
|
I have now seen this film; wow. I agree with you
entirely about the ending. I had no idea that was
happening, and it just blew me away. I love the
way this film is pretty much over the line of
twisted, yet you want to see more. A genius movie
which you CANNOT miss!

Saw

It reminds me of the game Manhunt, which was
amazing. I want to see this badly. Damn you 18
rating!

Donnie Darko

I just saw it, and it is very hard to catch onto.
I agree with MMMDI that it's amazingly written,
and that you have to watch it constantly to get to
know it. Looks like I'll be watching this one
again tomorrow to see if I can get the hang of it
yet...
