In a medical school, the freshmen students Alison Blanchard, Brian Cross, Carlos Aclar and Rick O'Connor receive the cadaver of a young woman for dissection in their anatomy class of Professor Walter Blackwell. The atheist Alison has a weird sensation that the spirit of the corpse is trying to communicate with her and tries to unravel who the woman was. Meanwhile, all the persons that handle the corpse mysteriously die.

The After Dark Horrorfest was an ingenious idea, and it's one that I personally hope continues for many years to come. Basically, the suits took a bunch of films that probably would have otherwise wound up in direct-to-video hell and put them together in theaters for the audiences to enjoy. Some of these films probably deserved the DTV fate that they were bound for, but others could have made a sizable chunk of change with the right marketing campaign. Unrest sort of falls in the middle of those two categories: it deserved more than a direct-to-video release, but I also doubt that it would have set the box office on fire.
The storyline finds Alison Blanchard (Corri English, who could easily pass as the twin sister of Britney Spears) beginning medical school, and as we all know, the first thing that you do in these classes is rip into a cadaver to learn about how the body works. Alison is teamed up with a trio of guys - Brian (Scot Davis), Carlos (Joshua Alba), and Rick (Jay Jablonski) - and the foursome is assigned to work on a corpse that looks to have been butchered to death. However, it turns out that this nameless woman who they eventually dub Norma (because "she looks like a Norma") has an interesting past to say the very least - and Alison can sense that Norma's spirit wants her to do something for it. Finding out what this spirit wants is the tricky part, and Norma is hellbent on murdering the people who desecrate her body until Alison figures it all out.
Part of the marketing ploy for this film was that it was the first movie to feature real bodies. I will say that there have been real corpses used in films prior to this, but as I have no concrete proof to confirm or deny that the corpses in this particular film were real and I wasn't on the set, I won't argue against these claims but I will say that the bodies looked real enough to me. I'm sure that some of them were movie props and some may have been legit, but I'm not going to get into all that since I have no clue as to what was what and which was which.
I'd also like to point out that I'm not a medical student, and as such, there are certain scenes that seemed a bit implausible to me. For example, I would think that swimming around in formaldehyde would do more than just slightly irritate your eyes, but again, I couldn't say for sure. However, there were certain moments and events that just screamed "inaccurate" even to my untrained eye. I won't point them out for fear of spoilers, but I will say that this is definitely a film that you should watch after pushing logic to the side. If you watch it as ninety minutes of entertainment and nothing more, you'll be fine; if, however, you go in expecting realistic depictions of autopsies and such, you'll probably be disappointed.
With all that said, I will say that I did enjoy the movie. The first half of the film features some truly disturbing imagery, and the final revelations were original at the very least. Again, one does have to give the writers a bit of leeway for some aspects of the story towards the end, but when you're watching a film dealing with spirits murdering people for crimes untold, the viewer needs to give the writers a bit of leeway by default. The corpse used to represent Norma was also very nice, regardless of whether it was "real" or not, and setting the movie inside a legit medical lab only helped the creepiness factor. Then there was "the tank", which... well, viewers really should see that for themselves, as it's truly a disgusting creation that words and stills can not do justice.
Check it out. There are parts that I probably would have written differently and some of the acting is a bit shaky (though the vast majority is perfectly acceptable), but overall, this was a pretty damned good movie that deserves some love. 7/10.

My only beef - the acting. Some of it was just
awful. But I really enjoyed the movie, and I too,
am loving this Horrorfest idea. I hope this year's
is as successful. 8/10.

I liked this movie a lot. I thought it was pretty
cool. I also thought it was funny that the girl
took her shirt off at every possible chance. I'm
not complaining but it just kind of cracked me up.
Yeah some of the acting was kinda lame but it had
a solid story.
