Veteran actor Pablo Thevenet has no luck: His daughter has been murdered, his wife has left him, he finds no job and his agent wants to leave him - current directors will never give him a role. He hates current talentless stars on TV talk shows. Suddenly, he finds some job - as a living sculpture in a whore house working for a Mr. Reficul and his transsexual assistant Dora Grizzel. Pablo becomes an artistic murderer, searching for those he thinks responsible of his current state. He also meets job partner Tic-Tac, an ex-prostitute who will sympathize with Pablo. Pablo also attracts the attention of unusual producer Ambrose Fuch, who wants him to act and direct movies. Everybody seems to have something to hide - including serial killer Pablo. --IMDb

Pablo Thevenet was once a very popular actor and director. Now that a new generation of actors and film makers are coming up, everyone has forgotten about him. After a failed audition, he visits his agent, Martin, who gives him the address of the Pandora Club. Afterwards, Martin tells him to find a more suitable agent since the two are just wasting time with each other. He visits the club and meets the owner, Mr. Reficul. He wants Thevenet to be a doorman entertainer that dressed up as different murderers from movies and history. He accepts the job.

When he visits the club the next night to sign his contract, he meets another one of the night club's top workers. Tick Tock, a former prostitute that got her nick name by timing all of her clients. She was to work with Thevenet on his costumes and the such. Still trying to make it in the film industry, he continues to go to auditions that he bugs Martin for. Though it eventually stops when he visits Martin to tell him about his latest audition. The director had a small part for him in a short film as he runs through a dance ball naked. Thevenet cannot take it anymore and kills the director and his lead star.

Martin doesn't believe what he's hearing. Thevenet makes it a bit easier to understand as he slashes his throat. Thevenet then decides to use the costumes he's getting for his job in another way. As a disguise to kill several different film industry men that have befriended him in the past, as well as actors and actresses that have taken his place. As all this is going on, a very powerful man by the name of Herr Fuchs wants to get in the film business and he wants the help of Thevenet. Herr Fuchs wants to make high class snuff films. Thevenet doesn't go for the idea at first, but eventually agrees to direct their first film.

On day one of the snuff film shooting, the man abusing the woman starts to bring back memories of Thevenet's daughter being raped and murdered. Thevenet starts to see the female victim as his daughter and quickly rises from his chair to shoot the man. When Thevenet realizes that wasn't his daughter being beaten, Herr Fuchs and his co-workers find the situation hilarious. Thevenet puts a stop to that by shooting each of them. When Tick Tock finds out about this, she gives him the password to Mr. Reficul's computer to see exactly what else is in store for him. What he discovers seems to have been in front of him the entire time.

A very graphic look at how a once high rising movie star that has became invisible to the public will do anything to regain the recognition he once had. A great job on everyone's part in the acting field. Paul Naschy had the obvious best role as the main character Pablo Thevenet. He portrayed the once known star turned murderer almost too well. This film actually shares a similar plot as Vernon Zimmerman's 1980 movie entitled "Fade To Black", where a kid dresses up as his favorite movie monsters and murders all of the people that picked on him. It has the same thought put into that particular killing field, but Rojo Sangre has a much better story backing it, and really a much better film as a whole.

Speaking of the killings, there was plenty of them that always had a nice and bloody touch to them. The best out of all of them would be when he broke into an couples house when they were having sex. He hit the man over the head with an award that was presented to the actress he was having sex with. He then tied the actresses hands to the bed post and started cutting open her stomach with a large knife. But the killing was shown on the wall as a shadow with all of the sounds. Just like some of the very old classic horror films would do back when they were all shot in black and white. In the end, it actually showed the actress with her guts all over the bed.

Interesting special effects that most horror films don't bother to use. Some of the best actually go to when the scenes would change. Thevenet would start walking away and a new scene would start to appear behind him. Or after Thevenet and Mr. Reficul were done talking for the first time, it zoomed into a picture hanging on the wall that would be Tick Tock driving on the highway. There was plenty more that were just as greatly done. Not all of the scene changes were like this, but a good majority of them were. Even though it has attributes from other films, the story is very unique. Same goes for the actual movie. The ending was quite the surprise, which is normally hard to come by in a straight horror film.

Final Conclusion: 9/10
