Scary Movie 4
|
|
Dude, this movie was absolutely horrible from
start to finish. I am a huge fan of
Abrahams/Zucker movies, as well as Leslie Neilson
movies, even though they're the exact same thing.
The funniest parts about this entire movie are
surmised in two instances: one Myspace comment and
Leslie Neilson buck naked. You can imagine that
for free and get the same entertainment. I hate
to play the parody elitist, but really, Scary
Movie 3 wasn't all that funny, especially in
contrast to incredible films like Hot Shots! and
Hot Shots: Part Deux. It just seems like the
creative parody well has run dry.

American History X
|
|
This film is absolutely phenominal. Although at
times the moral does get a bit hazy and confusing,
it adds to the strength of the movie. It's
fighting against hate, but yet, nearly every point
provided by Derek in the dinner table scene is a
valid one for racism. The tragic ending, his
dad's ideals about their principal. It's like at
times he wants the viewer to associate themselves
with the racists views to understand just how
hateful they are, because on it's own, a movie
about Neo-Naziism wouldn't have been an
entertaining one. This is one of the greatest
movies of the past centuries.

Ichi The Killer
|
|
This movie is brilliant, incredibly disturbing and
ironicly funny at moments.
|
The Skeleton Key
|
|
Actually, I enjoyed this a good bit more than most
modern horror/suspense movies like Saw, the Ring
and the Grudge. This movie had a much more
original setting; not too many movies that paint
the bayous as a particularly evil place. However,
like most horror/suspense movies, I wasn't
horrified or stuck in suspense. At all. The
ending I felt was kind of lame, as well.

Syriana
|
|
Syriana was incredible; saw it opening night. The
best thing about this movie, though, was that it
*WASN'T* like Fahrenheit 9/11, which might've been
the most laughable attempt at anti-Bush propaganda
ever presented. Micheal More only really
accomplished proving how little he knows about
politics in general, even if the movie did have
several redeeming factors. It was like using
arm-floats to keep the Titanic from sinking,
though. Syriana's the complete opposite. Here,
you get to take in everything from every side
possible; it's not a matter of yellow journalism.
The Taranteno progression also helped to put
things into perspective. (Spoiler potential)
Especially during moments like when Bob walked
away from the car bomb unflinched, just to lead
into the next scene which woiuld've featured an
out-of-work oil-field employee. It's a fairly
radical switch in perogative, but it works to keep
things into a broadened and open-minded context.
Amazing movie in the end.

Cabin Fever
|
|
Wait wait wait, are we talking about the same
movie here? This is one of the lamest movies I've
ever seen. It's good for a cringe or two, yeah,
but really nothing that I'm going to want to see a
year later. Worth skipping, actually.

The Faculty
|
|
I liked this movie, actually. Changed my opinion
of Elijah Wood as a complete geek. Then Lord of
the Rings came out.
|
The Ring
|
|
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
|
The Crow
|
|
One of the coolest movies ever.
|
Donnie Darko
|
|
Incredible concept and cast, but could've done
with some better cinematics.
|
Sin City
|
|
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen.
Excellent cast of bone-able women, too.
|
The Shining
|
|
I love this movie, but could someone please tear
Shelly Duvall's vocal chords out.
|
Saw
|
|
This movie is horrible. Seriously one of the
worst movies I have ever seen. It had some of the
worst acting I had ever seen, and the storyline
may have been clever, but everything else was just
boring and ridiculously overhyped. If this movie
scared you or fucked with your mind, you have to
be extremely dull-witted.
|
The Pest
|
|
This movie gives him such a bad reputation. He's
a brilliant writer, and a hilarious guy, not to
mention a brilliant actor. This movie is just
shit, no matter what way you look at it.
|
The Matrix
|
|
The Matrix in general never grabbed me. Not to
mention, there was a rather large story gap
between this and Reloaded.
|
The Mangler
|
|
The sequel was horrible. Stay away. Far away. I
have never seen such random and horrible
over-acting before.
|
Bowling For Columbine
|
|
There's no mystery to why, and I'm surprised no
one in the movie said so. America is one of the
central hot-spots for drug activity, even though
it's illegal, which is alone half the problem.
The other half is because America is an amalgam of
nations. There's no real minority here anymore,
and the clash of race contributes to alot of it as
well. Not to mention, America's style of
capitalism is set up to correlate with the phrase,
"Behind every great fortune is a great crime."

Versus

Looks and sounds very interesting. Definitely
going to rent.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1
|
|
Sidefriction, I don't know if you've heard about
this, because I read it in an interview when
Quentin talked about his movies. He said that he
felt a real Directors role would be taking his own
steps in Directing; He made the killings
unrealstic for a reason. This movie wasn't meant
to be a horror/thriller/action, it was meant to be
his patronage to the movies he loved as a kid, the
cheesey Kung-fu movies being one of those. He
kept the cheese with the battles and etc., and
added in the classic Tarentino dramatic
monologues/dialogues along with some clever
directing, plots, and such likable characters, not
to mention original setting(Western and Japanese),
to make for a stellar end result. I personally
loved this movie.
|
Spider-Man 2
|
|
I never did see what the massive appeal of this
movie was, even after I watched it. The first
Spider-Man, as much praise as it was rewarded, was
just too ridiculously corny, and Toby Maguire
seems to have a problem with giving his characters
personality. Not to mention, this movie was more
than half special-effects over actual acting. Not
that I'm complaining, because the CGI was
excellent, but I'm not about to give the
actors/actresses any credit for notable talent
when most of the movie isn't even acting. Another
thing, the plot seemed a little too stale for me.
Even though Dr. Octopus ended up being a better
antagonist than I imagined, I felt his role
towards the end had gone to waste with the way the
story turned. Plus, Harry becomes the new Green
Goblin? The son of the original? Oh yeah, that's
original right there. This movie is OK, but I
nothing I really found special.
